-GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS didn't make the top 5 but it did come pretty close
which is a huge increase versus past weeks and past seasons. This week, the show
delivered a .9 and had 1.8 million viewers. Could it be the power of this newsletter?
Highly unlikely...everyone loves a good Rock -n- Roll breakup and makeup story, so I
wish I could take credit, but I know better.
-George Clooney may be a movie star now, but he started on TV, so the news of his
break up from his Italian girlfriend is relevant to this column (see how I can do
that?)...What part don't these women get? He is NEVER going to marry
you...NEVER...so don' think you are going to be THE ONE who is going to change
him...he has been pretty freaking clear girls...he likes it but he is NEVER going to put a
ring on it. NEVER.
- Apparently, NBC is shelling out $160 million to Mark Burnett and Donald Trump for
two more years of CELEBRITY APPRENTICE. The Donald will personally pocket $65
million per year, a major raise over his current contract.
While the amounts seem staggering if you consider about 25 two-hour episodes per
season, that’s roughly 100 hours of programming for $160 million or a cost to NBC of
about $1.6 million per hour. That seems on the high side for a reality program that
doesn’t rate anywhere near as well as AMERICAN IDOL (or even THE VOICE), but even
at that level it’s still considerably cheaper than most scripted programming. There is
NO WAY Trump would have made anything close to this kind of dough as President, so
in my opinion it's a win win for us all.
-While I usually get annoyed when the President ruins my TV schedule, last night's
amazing announcement that our troops will be coming home (well 33K of them
anyway) was well worth the 15 minute shift of the night so no complaints here.
-I have to admit I was exhausted last night, so I only really made it through THE
VOICE, but hey that was enough! The Battle of the Bald Women (great title for a
movie, are you listening JJ Abrahams?) was a real nail biter. SPOILER ALERT-It was
Beverly who beat out Frenchie and is it me or did you get the feeling that they were in
love or something? Weird vibe there. In addition to Beverly, Vicki, Javier and Dia all
made it to the finals next week. So while all that was great, CEE LO's performance was
crazy. He wore this crazy wig and did a Lawrence Welk themed version of his single
Bright Lights, Bigger City...all enjoyable, but once again, how loud do I have to scream
it...KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE! Not many of us know who Lawrence Welk even is. Oh,
and one more thing...THANK YOU NBC for listening to me (I am sure I had nothing to
do with it) and moving the show to 8PM (815 for you east coasters).
-Tonight I am thinking of checking out ABC's EXPEDITION IMPOSSIBLE, it could be like
SURVIVOR which is my favorite. I am officially giving up FRANKLIN & BASH and I am
officially NOT going to watch WHITE COLLAR or any other legal dramas. Big
statements I know, let's see if I can stick to it.
-Thursday's Trivia Question: What is current salary of the President of the United
