-Coming clean from the start, I didn't watch ANY TV yesterday at all! See...I really am
on vacation...reading, puzzles, eating, spending time with friends and of course the
beach...you guys should be proud of me...but there are still some things to discuss, so
let's get to it asap, so I can get to chapter 20 of Bossypants by Tina Fey.
- I don't use FOURSQUARE, I still don't understand the joy of collecting badges and
becoming Mayor of someplace without a true payoff, but maybe ESPN is figuring out
how to get me (or my son) to join. Foursquare struck a deal with ESPN to serve up
trivia, facts and news when users check into live sporting events. Users who check in
are also eligible to earn a virtual "ESPN foam finger" badge. Again, don't know why I
care that much about the virtual foam finger, but the trivia, facts and news could be
enjoyable...Foursquare currently has 10 million users. How many of you guys are on
Foursquare (not an official WWTM Reader's Poll question...just curious)
-As you know I am a major Facebooker...so whenever there are Facebook facts, I like to
share them which makes no sense since I am really the one interested, but I assume if
it interests me...it might interest you too. Anyway, according to Emarketer, users
aren't messaging with friends, sending digital gifts, installing apps or joining groups as
much as they were two years ago. Uploading videos is rising, but most other activities
are contracting. The number of Facebook users will rise by about 13% this year, down
from 38% last year, (couldn't that be because most people on the planet already have a
Facebook account though?) Of course, Facebook still remains wildly popular. Facebook
logged record traffic in July with 162 million U.S. uniques up from the months before.
-So much for REALITY TV... On Friday, Bravo President Frances Berwick said the
network will re-edit episodes of REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS following the
alleged suicide of Russell Armstrong, the husband of series star Taylor Armstrong. The
re-editing process is underway and the network said the series could still make its
planned September 5 season two premiere. Of course I am going to watch it...but I
think if it were up to me and I didn't have to worry about losing money, what to run in
its place, and what the right thing to do was...I would wait a few months and run the
show unedited. That's the reality of reality TV. Sorry Frances Berwick, I can't support
you on this one, even though Bravo is one of my faves...gotta be honest.
-For me, ONE TREE HILL first jumped the shark when Jaime was born, but I stuck with
it and then I thought the show jumped the shark when Lucas and Peyton left so I was
out. As you know if you are a devoted reader, I was considering jumping on the final
season bandwagon, but after reading that "A deadly Eastern European Assasin will be
added to the cast" I am now sure the show has jumped the shark and more confused
than ever as to what to do...check it out or just bag it altogether?
-The Carruba family can't wait for September 14th when SURVIVOR returns, and
yesterday the cast facts and photos were revealed, but of course since it worked out
pretty well last year, and it seems to be working out well on BIG BROTHER, one of the
twists (is it still a twist if it's been done before and we kinda know about it?)this
season will be that 2 returning players are coming back to play the game. Honestly I
don't care what they do, I will be tuning in and loving every minute.
-TUESDAY'S TRIVIA QUESTION: Jennifer Gardner and Ben Affleck are expecting baby
