WATCHING WAY TOO MUCH 12/8/11

While the “Invite a Friend” contest still has 23 days left, the addition of Matt Scarpa to WWTM gets me to the 300 mark.  As I type I now have 302 readers.  I can’t thank you all enough, keep recommending, suggesting, begging and forwarding readers, the contest continues and there is a small but pretty decent prize!

The answer to Wednesday’s Trivia Question: Alec Baldwin’s character in the HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER was Jack Ryan.

-Ratings note: 2 ½ MEN is up 41% against RA18-49 vs. year ago…Ashton, plus no shirt=ratings bonanza!
HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER is up 28%, MODERN FAMILY is up 24% and BIG BANG THEORY is up 20% who says nobody is watching TV anymore…

-Last night on X FACTOR, everyone got to sing 2 songs.  First a “dance” song and then their own choice.  I don’t know why they choose themes at all, the mentors just pick any song and put whatever rhythm fits the theme.  I was worried about my boy Josh singing a dance song.  He sang Rhianna’s “Love in a Hopeless Place” which doesn’t fit his bluesy voice at all, so it wasn’t great. For his own song choice, he did an amazing version of “Something in the Way She Moves”.  Whewwww, he saved himself on that one I hope.  Melanie Amaro ended with a performance of Whitney Houston’s song “Believe” that completely gave me chills and this time when she spoke she didn’t have her Jamaican accent.  So who knows if she is Jamaican or isn’t Jamaican, at least I am interested to hear what comes out of her mouth now.  I didn’t like her dance version of Adele’s “Someone Like You” at all.  Honestly I think The Sliders’ version of that song is the best right now.  If you have never heard it, check it out here:

Most of the performances were really great though, and it will be tough to see someone go tonight.  I am betting it is Chris Rene, but it could be Marcus…

-It was family night on SURVIVOR.  I always think when the family member shows up and hugs their SURVIVOR contestant how smelly they must be, but you never hear anyone complain.  I mean 33 days without a real shower…P…U!  If you remember from last week, Cochran was sent to Redemption, where Ozzy was waiting for him.  Ozzy was relieved as he figured it would be a slam dunk beating Cochran in the duel, but while SPOILER ALERT: Ozzy did win the duel, it was only by seconds.  Cochran and Jeff had great buff burning speeches, this is what makes me love Jeff and the show so much.  I was never a fan of Edna, but she did play her heart out last night and I thought that maybe the tribe bought it, but unfortunately, she too went off to Redemption to face Ozzy.

-I think last night’s MODERN FAMILY holiday special was the best show they have done to date.  HILARIOUS.  Phil Dunphy and Cam at their best, even Hailey surprised me with her chance to shine in this episode.  The story last night was that when the families realized that they weren’t going to be together for Xmas this year, Phil Dunphy created just as it was coming out of his mouth, “Express Xmas” in 4 hours.  If you haven’t seen it, you need to watch it, Hulu it, Itunes it, whatever.  I am going to watch it again, when I have a minute.

-SUBURGATORY was also a holiday episode, both my boys, Jeremy Sisto and Jay Mohr were unfortunately featured completely clothed, but still a good episode.  This show is getting better each week.

-LIVE WITH KELLY host chat update:  Josh Groban joined Kelly last night (well that’s when I watch) and he was great with Kelly, but I don’t enjoy actually looking AT him.  His hair is messy, and his eyes never look like they are opened all the way. It was distracting, but he has potential. Normally I don’t watch the guests, but yesterday super cute Zac Efron was on, so I checked him out for a few minutes. No idea what he had to say, he was just promoting his appearance in NEW YEARS EVE, (which I am sure I will see) and looking very adorable.

- Verizon is getting ready to offer its own online video streaming service that would serve as a competitor to Netflix, (was someone listening to me complain in my cube all the time about Netflix?) The company has been speaking with potential programming partners, and could look to unveil the service in 2012. However, Verizon would only offer the streaming service outside of FiOS markets, which would still make it available for close to 85 million U.S. households. I say YEAH VERIZON…kick NETFLIX’s butt!  I am STILL mad at them every time I go to watch a movie.  I don’t have the DVD of the one I want, and of course it isn’t available to stream, but I am paying more than I did before.

- SO HAPPY for TiVo, they are coming back to DirecTV six years after the satellite company stopped offering the box and service to its customers. DirecTV announced that it will launch a new TiVo-based HD DVR in 10 major markets today in New York, LA, Chicago, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. Any of you who are unhappy with your DVR or cable company, I have had TiVo since day one and it is THE BEST DVR out there.  I have tried almost all of them and there is nothing like the original TiVo.

-Thursday’s Trivia Question: -Harry Morgan died at the age of 96 yesterday.  I knew him as Colonel Potter from the 4077th MASH unit, but he was the second Colonel on MASH.  Who was the first? (I will take the characters name OR the actor that played him)
