Hey guys-
I just couldn't go another week with out a posting...I've got too much on my mind that needs to get emptied out in order for me to enjoy my second week of vacation.
First let me set the stage. This is a photo of the ONLY TV in the house we rent in LBI. As you can see...it's SO old school. We think it's a 23" screen. No HD, and basic cable only. To be honest, I am very proud of myself as to how little TV I've watched in the past 7 days.
So in no order whatsoever...here's everything in my brain that I need to unload...
I haven't missed an episode of Big Brother...not one. How awesome was the Boogie blindside? What was even more amazing was the look on Boogie's face when he learned about Ian and the Quack Pack...I love that Boogie actually tipped his hat to Ian....I was fine with Ashley's departure too. She had to be, the stupidest player in Big Brother history. I didn't love that Frank won HOH...does he have nine lives or what? It's also driving me crazy...I know I've seen Frank's hair on someone else before...who is it? It'll come to me...I know it will. Probably at 3am one night, but it will come to me.
As you know I never acknowledge certain shows in this blog (if you aren't sure which ones, check out the "Are You a New Reader" page which you can access to the right of this post. ...one of them being...Jersey Shore, but I just can't keep my mouth shut about something...I just can't...The fact that I received alerts from reputable news organizations like CNN & MSNBC on Sunday morning when Snookie had her baby is absolutely disgusting and really demonstrates the decline of American civilization to me. WHAT IS WRONG WITH EVERYONE? This girl is a loser, an alcoholic, slutty loser who is famous for being an alcoholic, brainless, slutty, loser. Why is the birth of her illegitimate child NEWS? WHY??? Okay...enough...I vented, got it out of my system, I feel better. Now back to our regularly non scheduled programming.
Oh...wait...I forgot to vent about something else. I read that KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, Utah is refusing to air the new Primetime comedy, The New Normal. REALLY??? Okay, the station is owned by Mormons, but that doesn't mean they have the right to censor does it? Let viewers decide what they want to watch...if they don't like it they can change the channel. It's really easy...especially these days. For anyone that didn't watch the Summer Olympics and missed the millions of promos, this show features a gay couple who hire a surrogate so that they can provide a loving home to a child. Apparently Mormons, now have issues with unconventional families which is sort of ironic since Mormons used to practice polygamy a while back. Unbelievable...just unbelievable to me.
As we all know, keeping a media secret these days is nearly impossible. The second the Live with Kelly promos started running letting us all know that the big co-host reveal would be on Tuesday, September 4th (my birthday btw) every news outlet seemed to believe that Michael Strahan was the winner of the coveted seat next to Kelly. While I have yet to see an official announcement from Kelly, ABC, Disney, Michael Strahan, Michael Gelman or any of my "friends" at WABC, everyone else in the media world claims that Strahan is the man. Personally I would be absolutely fine with this decision, but I would love it if it wasn't true and everyone was duped...that would be cool. I am not reporting anything until I see the new host in that chair on Tuesday, September 4th. (Did I mention that it's my birthday that day?)
The cast for this seasons Survivor was revealed last week while I was on the beach. How cool is it that Lisa Whelchel, aka Blair Warner from The Facts of Life is playing this season? Apparently she is a self proclaimed super fan and has been dying to get in the game. In addition to Lisa, there is former MLB MVP, Jeff Kent and 3 past contestants who had to be taken out of the game for various medical reasons. Do you remember when Michael Skupin fell into the fire and all of his skin melted off his hands or when Jonathan had to get evacuated due to a crazy infection in his knee or when that guy Russell (no, the other one) was so dehydrated his eyes rolled back in his head? I remember them all and can't wait for this season to get going. I think it's going to be really good!
I was never a Phyllis Diller fan, but it was sad to hear that she died. Phyllis sorta freaked me out. I have a crazy fear of clowns and Phyllis always reminded me of these clown pictures that were in my Grandma's house when I was little. These pictures scared the crap out of me and so did Phyllis, but she did pave the way for female comedienne's so RIP Phyllis. I won't miss you, but a lot of people will.
More bad news, Rosie O'Donnell had a heart attack. Are we shocked? I love Rosie, I do, but it was really only a matter of time. We know she doesn't eat healthy, we know she doesn't exercise so are we surprised to hear she had a heart attack? I hope that it was a wake up call and she starts taking care of herself. I have always been a fan of hers and wouldn't like to see her end up with Phyllis anytime soon.
Pretty interesting Late Night news this week. First we heard that The Tonight Show was laying off 20 people and Jay, to show his solidarity, was taking a pay cut. I hate Jay. Was never a fan of his and to be honest, I don't even believe the pay cut thing is true. It also makes no sense to me. If the Tonight Show is number one in Late Night why the need to lay off so many? Also...who knew there were 20 extra people working on that show...what did they all do? I do like Jimmy Kimmel and was psyched to hear that ABC was promoting him and giving him the 11:35pm time slot and bumping Nightline back. Of course you know that my favorite Jimmy is Jimmy Fallon, but I'm totally rooting for Kimmel to kick Jay and Dave's butt in the Late Night War and will begin to report the weekly numbers once Kimmel begins his new gig in January.
I did watch Breaking Bad last week. Walt has really gone over to the dark side hasn't he? Not sure if there is only one or two more episodes before our year long wait for the series finale next Summer. I am so glad that I jumped on this bandwagon. Hope some of you did too!
I need to admit something...I checked out the new E! show Married to Jonas the other day. I wasn't a huge Jo Bro's fan, but I did take my niece to see them when they were THE boy band of the moment, so I had to give the show a try. Of course...I liked it. I'm not proud of the fact that I liked it, but hey, I always tell you guys the truth. The show actually focuses on the one Bro that I never found cute at all, but he seems to be aging well. He married a regular Italian girl named Danielle who doesn't know that bacon comes from pigs. Need I say more? The other Jo Bro's are in the show too. In the first episode the Jonas family came over for dinner and basically told Danielle when it would be a good time for her to have a baby. I think we have a winner guys...I really do.
Not that we all care anymore, but NBC officially announced that the upcoming season of The Office will be it's last. It probably should have been cancelled a while ago. I would have cancelled it when Jim and Pam got married. That would have been the perfect ending. I hope the writers have something interesting planned, maybe Steve Carrell and Ricky Gervais will come back and blow up Dunder Mifflin.
Kevin Reilly, FOX President of Entertainment, was promoted this week to Chairman of Entertainment. New title, more work, probably more dough too. Congrats Kevin.
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee was pretty good this week. I had no idea who the Mystery Science Theatre guy was, but the show was funny anyway. In case you need the link...here it is:
In addition to hanging on the beach, eating, drinking, playing games, bike riding, winning the Carruba family mini golf tournament, paddle boarding, practicing yoga, doing puzzles, and actually sleeping, I have also:
Read 71% of the book "The Art of Fielding" which pretty much means that I have no shot whatsoever of achieving my goal of finishing 3 books during this vacation.
Watched 3 movies: Machine Gun Preacher (really good), John Carter (way better than you'd think) and 5 Year Engagement (horrible).
Listened to 6 of Alec Baldwin's "Here's the Thing" podcasts all of which were very interesting and enjoyable. (Billy Joel, Lorne Michaels, Michael Douglas, Kris Jenner, Ed Rollins, and David Letterman)
I think that's it...I think I've emptied everything from my brain that I needed to...now back to my vacation.
