THE SHOWS
Survivor Finale/Reunion
This year during the actual final episode, Jeff Probst was live in the studio chiming in with different tidbits, tweets and interviews with folks in the audience. Of course he rocked. He's kept things fresh and different for 29 Seasons. Last nights finale was perfect. Natalie played a perfect game, had some awesome big moves and she did outwit, outplay and outlast and she won the million bucks. Slam dunk. I did get nervous that Jacklyn could perhaps win, but no way that Missy would. Reed slammed Missy during his final tribal speech. Wow. He was very eloquent but really tough on her. We met Keith's wife and Wes's Mom who told us that the Keith we saw on the show is the real Keith. Spitting and all. The spitting was out of control during last nights episode. I noticed it a little here and there during the season, but during the finale, crazy spitting action going on. Pretty cool that that Make a Wish kid created a reward challenge and got it on the show. I could NEVER have come up with a reward challenge of any kind. I loved the first thought that Keith had when he was voted out. His buddies at the firehouse are going to bust his b@lls for going to a spa. Hilarious. I wonder if now he'll do it again on his own? The biggest lesson anyone thinking about playing Survivor should have learned from this season (other than don't lose your flint and don't eat all your rice) NEVER tell anyone you have the Immunity Idol. Jacklyn didn't have a clue that Natalie had it and that was the hugest move of the game. Keep your mouths shut people. Jon and Jacklyn are engaged, that was the only big news from the reunion. Jeff's 53 years old. I don't think he Botox's but he looks amazing and he's just one of the best hosts on TV. Next season sounds very interesting. White Collar/Blue Collar/No Collar. I was hoping for an All-Star Season to celebrate the 30th cycle, but this idea is a good one. I've never missed an episode and I'll be there for Season 30! Congrats to Natalie. WELL PLAYED!
THE OTHER STUFF
- I admit, I have a terrible memory. I'm sure
I've used the same trivia questions a few times, or repeated a story here and there, but a lot of you guys help me out all the time. I totally forgot that there is actually already
another competitor to Nielsen for local market measurement out there
called Rentrak. Some agencies are already using Rentrak or preparing to
in the upcoming year. Hopefully with Rentrak and NewCoin maybe, just
maybe someone will crack the code. What is that saying... a rising tide
lifts all boats? Personally, with all of us sitting watching TV with
our phones, why not just have an app? Seems so simple to me.
-Speaking of Nielsen, they recently analyzed Twitter activity 24/7 around 72 weekly broadcast and cable TV shows in August and September 2014. No huge surprise that the majority of weekly Twitter TV activity (68%) takes place within the live airing of a new episode which was defined as 3 hours before through 3 hours after the airing. By genre, reality shows see the highest activity with 70%. Comedies next with 55%. This is what Nielsen spends their time on instead of inventing the App I mentioned above. See why there's room for Rentrak and NewCoin?

-HBO
announced yesterday that as of January 1st they will no longer be
releasing live + same day ratings information. Instead they'll only
provide media outlets with Live + 7 ratings, VOD and HBO Go viewership.
Hopefully, I'll still get Live + Same Day numbers in the daily cable
overnight ratings reports.
-I was busy watching Survivor last night, but if you were thinking of watching The Sing Off for the next few weeks I'm afraid you're out of luck. The entire season was really just one 2 hour episode last night. 6 groups performed, winner was announced, Nick Lachey's home for Christmas. Wish they would have told us. Yep...1 and done!
-If you are as old as I am, you may remember very fondly the very first season ever of THE REAL WORLD on MTV. (Pretty sure they did still play videos then) If you do, set your DVR for Oprah's "Where are They Now" episode, this Sunday night. The entire cast is reuniting in the loft where it all started. I personally can't wait. I was a HUGE fan. I loved them all if you can name them all you will get 25 bonus points. Try to do it without looking it up. Honor system.
