The answer to Tuesday’s Trivia Question: Mary Richards worked at WJM-TV in Minneapolis
FIRST FOUR: Jonathan Spaet, James Gabriele, Dan Donovan & Alex Nagler
I am honestly surprised more people didn’t know that one, I mean the MARY TYLER MOORE show was one of the best sitcom’s ever…hmmmm maybe you guys were just still all in vacation mode.

-Have to admit, I didn’t watch much of anything last night…Of course I checked out LIVE WITH KELLY because her super hot husband was her co-host on Monday and I love it when he is on. Yesterday it was Jim Parsons from THE BIG BANG THEORY who was actually pretty good. I hear one of my “Bucket List” guys, Rob Lowe is hosting in the next few days…I will have to call in sick or something…JUST KIDDING (my bosses read this thing!). The only other thing I watched was the season premiere of THE LYING GAME and then I must have fallen asleep…not used to this working thing…I had a lot of time off!
-Some interesting US and Worldwide Texting Trends
· 25% of US Texters are between 10-25 years old
· 25% of US Texters are between 25-35 years old
· 50% of US Texters are over 35 years old (I find this stat interesting…honestly thought it would be reverse)
· Adults over the age of 18 send an average of 10 texts per day
· Boys between 14-17 send an average of 30 texts per day
· Girls between 14-17 send an average of 100 texts per day (I know for a fact this is true…I have nieces…they don’t speak much but they text A LOT!)
· 34% of teens admit to texting while driving
· 47% of their older wiser adults admit to texting while driving (unacceptable adults! What is wrong with you?)
· The country that sends the most texts per month…the Philippines (Odd right?)
· The US was 10th on that same list
-There were 33.7 million tablet users in 2011 with the prediction that it will increase to 54.8 million in 2012 this would be an increase of 62.8% if the prediction is right.
-In 2011, 97.3 million people used mobile internet. The prediction is that it will increase to 113.9 million in 2012 which would be a 17.1% increase.
-I am pretty sure that yesterday I told you about 2 of my new obsessions…Jon Snow from GAME OF THRONES and the website PINTEREST. I saw this great chart called THE MATH OF A HIT TV SHOW on PINTEREST and I can’t seem to copy and paste it in here, so let me see if I can recap it for you:
· Each year the Big 4 Networks each receive 500 Pitches for new show ideas
· Of these 500, 70 Scripts will be commissioned
· Of the 70 Scripts they make 20 Pilots
· Of the 20 Pilots 4-8 will become new TV series
· Of the 4-8 new TV series only 1-2 will make it passed the first season
So out of the 4-8 that end up getting on the air we ended up with WORK IT? What was idea number 9???
-On New Year’s night, Oprah was back on her network with OPRAH’S NEXT CHAPTER. I saw the show…it was a 2 hour interview with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. I love Steven Tyler…but have to admit that it was weird seeing him with Oprah and kissing her butt (which he did). She just made him boring to me and if you have ever heard Steven on Howard Stern, he is so NOT boring! The show did pretty well for the network, delivering a 1.1 RA25-54 with 1.1 million viewers. Even with that positive “spin” Oprah has to remember that on her worst day in daytime she delivered a significantly larger audience. I think Oprah may be working harder now than she did before she “retired”.
-Nielsen revealed the top online destinations for 2011. Nothing that surprising to really:
· Google came out on top as the most-visited U.S. web brand
· Facebook led the way among social networks and blogs.
· YouTube was the top online destination for watching videos
- 1.2 billion apps were downloaded globally between December 25 and December 31, 2011, which is a 60% increase over the regular December average (of 750,000). It is the first time app downloads broke the one billion mark in a single week. The U.S. accounted for almost half of all downloads (at 509 million), followed by China (99 million), the U.K. (81 million), Canada (41 million) and France and Germany (40 million each).
-According to the Wall Street Journal, Superbowl XLVI is sold out! (I felt the need to use the XLVI-it’s really the only modern use for roman numerals these days, unless you are naming someone and let’s be honest when is the last time you met someone whose name was Kristy Carruba the V?) So all of you guys that were thinking of spending your last 3.5MM on a spot in the game…sorry…no more left. Pretty sure there are still some spots available locally so if you are DYING to be in the big game, you can always go that route.
-I have never been a big hockey person, but 3.74 million people watched the Winter Classic this weekend. Which was up 2% vs. last year. While this is decent, the numbers have been bigger:
· 4.5 million Jan. 1, 2011 NBC Capitals-Penguins
· 4.4 million Jan. 1, 2009 NBC Red Wings-Blackhawks
· 3.8 million Jan. 27, 1996 FOX Six-game regional coverage
· 3.8 million Jan. 1, 2008 NBC Penguins-Sabres
· 3.74 million Jan. 2, 2012 NBC Rangers-Flyers
· 3.68 million Jan. 1, 2010 NBC Flyers-Bruins
-I have been pretty good about sticking to my Kardashian free rule for this email, but I have to complain for just a second…I just read that LAST MAN STANDING cast Kim for an episode during February Sweeps. I am really not a fan of the show, it’s fine and honestly it is doing much better than I thought it would, so why do they feel the need to stunt it with Kim in February? I know there are a lot of you out there who love all things Kardashian, but again…I JUST DON’T GET IT! America please raise the bar for yourself in 2012…you can do better!
-Good news people…tonight…all new episodes on ABC for some of my faves (and yours I think) SUBURGATORY, MODERN FAMILY, HAPPY ENDINGS and REVENGE are all new! Yeah! Finally!
-WEDNESDAY’S TRIVIA QUESTION: ONE TREE HILL’s 8th and final season premieres next Wednesday, January 11th. I was a HUGE fan for years but then the show jumped the shark and I haven’t watched the past 2 seasons…I will be tuning back in for the final season though…anyway… How did Nathan and Haley meet?
