-I really don’t know the process, so not sure if The Parent’s Television Council actually watches the episodes that they publically declare they have a problem with, but if they had watched last night’s GLEE, I think they would have to agree that the “first time” subject matter was handled EXTREMELY responsibly. I had read the content report, so I had an idea of what was going to happen, but it wasn’t the actual script, so wasn’t sure if I should allow my 10 year old to watch. I told him, the issue and we decided to watch together…at the end…he turned to me and said…”that’s what everyone is so upset about? I don’t get it”. I agree completely…the episode didn’t have one single scene of gratuitous teen sex, they didn’t even show anyone having sex or even taking off any clothes. I had no issue at all watching with him…judge me if you want to, he is my only kid, and I am sure I am screwing him up somehow, but there was nothing in the episode I had any issues with at all. Interestingly enough, I am heading into the city today for an ANA meeting on Family Friendly programming. I am definitely bringing this issue up. If you watched…what did you think?
- DANCING WITH THE STARTS SPOILER ALERT: It was finally Nancy Grace’s turn to go…I personally think David Arquette should have beaten her and Rob Kardashian, but no way he could beat JR or Ricki Lake so I guess it’s still all okay. I really don’t even watch…just the last 5 minutes, so it’s not like I have THAT much invested really. As a HUGE Howard Stern fan, I have to route for David Arquette for anything he does, so just wish he could have hung in longer…
-I was really looking forward to Brett Ratner’s stint at producing the Oscars. He was the one that got Eddie Murphy to host the show. So now that he was fired or resigned or whatever we believe happened, not sure about the show. Will Eddie still host? Rumor is Eddie will walk. I heard Brett on Howard and thought he was out of his mind and revealed a lot of personal information, but the comment that was the straw that broke the camel’s back wasn’t on Howard’s show…but I am sure the Howard interview didn’t help at all. The whole thing is absolutely ridiculous…
-We all know that next week is Regis’s last as co-host of Live! With Regis & Kelly, but Kelly just signed a new 5 year deal…I hope she knows who her new co-host is already and won’t regret signing for another 5 years. Or maybe she is happy to be getting rid of Reeege and doesn’t care who sits in that chair as long as the Louboutin’s keep showing up.
-A study on what drives engagement on Facebook revealed that posts with photos drive the most engagement, followed by video, text only and links last. I would have to agree based on my own usage…a good photo will always get me to comment. Additionally, posts with shorter text receive more likes and comments. Interesting fact, engagement seems to be highest on Fridays on mobile phones.
- 44% percent of TV homes in the United States now have a DVR. About one-third of those homes have more than one DVR. 73% of all digital cable customers have used VOD and 87% having done so in the last month. I don’t even want to tell you how many DVRs I have in my house…but I am definitely part of the 73% that has more than one. Interestingly enough, I have NOT accessed VOD via my cable system, but I have online. Which is a great segue to the next fact…
-The use of connected devices for video consumption is rising fast, by 2016 connected devices will account for 27% of all over-the-top video transactions, up from 6% last year. The growth is coming from rapid increases in use of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon. By the end of 2016, more than 133 million TV homes worldwide will access over-the-top content using a pay TV set-top box.

-PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS NOMINATIONS came out yesterday…I was happy to see THE VAMPIRE DIARIES nominated for Favorite Network TV Drama, and Ian “Damon” Somerhalder for Favorite TV Drama Actor and Nina “Elena” Dobrev too. They really seemed to have changed the nominations drastically, most likely to bring in a younger audience. They also divided up the categories between Broadcast and Cable…interesting, and I think a good idea…I haven’t watched in years but now…I will be watching! Not sure how it would be possible to give out 43 awards in 2 hours, maybe some are given out online???
-The Duggars, that crazy family that had 19 kids…are expecting their 20th…to someone like me who is more than happy with just one kid, 20 seems just kookoo for cocoa puffs…but what is more baffling is, how do Mr. & Mrs. Duggar find the time and the privacy to make more baby Duggars?
-For all of you ONCE UPON A TIME fans, Clair from LOST has been cast as Belle from Beauty and the Beast…good casting actually.
-Wednesday’s BH90210 Trivia Question: Steve Sanders dated a girl named Carly who was a single Mom…this actress went on to win an Academy Award…name the actress.
-On a separate BH90201 note…Tori Spelling’s Mom, Candy Spelling won 90 grand in Vegas at the slots! Apparently she wins big in Vegas often having won 180K in 2008 and 200K in 2007…just proves the theory, the rich keep getting richer! Hopefully she will go and spend some of it on Liam, Stella and Hattie.
-WWTM Poll Question: What time would you prefer this email arrive each morning? Currently I try to send out BEFORE 8:30AM, but I seem to be getting some requests for later…let me know.
