THE SHOWS
The Detour
Every single episode of The Detour Season 1 was awesome. Every cast member was awesome. Who knew? The Season Finale was great. So great that even the investigating officer in the episode called out the "great cliffhanger" ending. I reallllly think you guys should binge on this one. I might even rewatch the entire season. Just a reminder, the show follows a family of four on a vacation that for reasons I'd rather not give away at this point, takes a detour. (hence, the name of the show) I had no idea how Samantha Bee and Jason Jones would figure out how to turn a weeks vacation into a Second Season, but they did and...it was perfect!!! Put this on your Summer viewing list. I'm adding it to the WWTM Binge List right now.

Deadliest Catch
I've been watching Deadliest Catch since day one. You think you've seen it all, you think you can't watch the boats go out into the crazy ocean again and again, but you can. I'm still screaming when a rogue wave hits a boat really hard. I'm still worried about the crew when they lose power. I'm still thrilled for an experienced captain when he's on the crab and bummed when he's not. I cheer for the new young captains making their dead father's proud as they power out into the rough seas to follow in their footsteps. I can't fathom leaving my family for months at time to live on a stinky, cold, wet, fishing boat. But these guys live for doing just that. Last night's episode was no exception. This show still thrills. Still makes you wonder why these guys do what they do, risk their lives so that we can all have crab in our California Rolls. I give the producers and directors credit for keeping the show interesting, keeping us caring and keeping us feeling so deeply for these guys. Shout out to Josh Harris and Sean Dwyer the two young captains who were on the crab and making us all wish their dad's were around to see it.

Maya and Marty
Every time Maya Rudolph and Martin Short were on someone's talk show promoting their new show they were hilarious. Even my husband was looking forward to watching this show. With Lorne Michaels, great guest stars, a strong lead in with America's Got Talent, a 10pm time slot, and nothing else on, it should win, right? So...did you laugh? I did, not as much as I thought I would, but I did. I enjoyed the astronaut skit at the beginning, Melania's Edible Diamonds and Jiminy Glick's interview with Larry David. The rest was just okay. Lots of product placements. Burger King, Radisson Hotels, Seventh Generation Detergent and NBC's own Chicago Fire shout out. Is this show Must See TV? Not really, but is it decent Summer fare? I guess so. I really have to sit and plot my viewing out. This is one that could go either way. Anyone else watch?

THE OTHER STUFF

-Amazon renewed Transparent for a 4th Season before the 3rd Season has even aired. Just a reminder this is the Jeffery Tambor show that has won all the awards for being a comedy when there isn't one funny moment in any episode. The show's a drama and sometimes, a very uncomfortable one at that. Maura's journey isn't as tough to watch as the rest of her dysfunctional family is. You really have to be in the mood to binge this one and I'm not sure yet if I'm in the mood for Season 3 let alone Season 4.

-The first episode of the new Roots miniseries was seen by 5.3 million viewers across 4 networks. I guess for these days that's respectable, but keep in mind, the original was seen by 28.8 million people on 1 network. Name the Network that aired the original for some June bonus points.

-After only 3 weeks, Chelsea Handler's executive producer and showrunner got the boot. I've been watching Chelsea's show and shockingly, I still like it, but it's all over the place. There's no real flow, or continuity. It's never the same and maybe that's what Chelsea's going for. I kinda like what she's trying to do but there is something missing or needed but I can't put my finger on it. I'd think anyone trying to weigh in on a daily basis is going to get their ass handed to them if it's not what Chelsea wants or has in mind, so good luck to the next exec producer. You're def going to need it.

-Spike named Julia Roberts their "Woman of the Decade" would you agree with that choice? I never hear guys talking about Julia Roberts...EVER! When I think about it, even when Julia was a huger star during the Pretty Woman years I don't think guys were putting her picture up on their walls, were they? I'm a fan, don't get me wrong. I'm a huge fan going back to Mystic Pizza but is she a Woman of the Decade? I guess if George Clooney hangs out with her, she's gotta have something special, right?

-The new Season of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee starts on 6/16. Jerry will have Lorne Michaels, John Oliver, Margaret Cho, Jim Gaffigan, Judd Apatow and JB Smoove in the passenger seat with him. Can't wait for the Lorne Michaels episode, betting it took place in the Hamptons.

-KELLY UPDATE: Yesterday she had Common filling in. He was boring and spoke way to slow. No chemistry at all. I was out before Host Chat even ended for anyone who's following along on the HUNT FOR A CO-HOST!
