-I don't have the official cable numbers yet, because you know the deal with Nielsen, but The Last Ship did pretty well Sunday night. 7.4 million viewers tuned in between the 9pm and 11pm airings. Falling Skies returned to solid numbers with 4.7 million viewers too.  A good night for TNT all around.

THE SHOWS

24
Lots of shockers in the 7-8pm hour. Still no bathroom breaks, no beverages, no power bars nada. BUT…POTUS is still alive, and Jack was able to find Margo and her son, kill them both while hanging from a bungee and re-route the missile all with one hand! Then after everyone's brains were spattered all over the sidewalk, Jack kept going and delivered the override device back to the super safe CTU. NOT! We all know that CTU is actually never safe, always has a bad guy on the inside, and doesn't really check employee references before sending out the offer letters. Sooooo Benjamin Bratt stole the override device and with the help from Chloe's dude is on the lam. Thing is, something's definitely up with Chloe and her boss/guy whatever. We just aren't sure at all what it is.  Audrey is still TOTALLY into Jack, who knows what'll happen with them in the next few hours. All I know is that all we cared about was killing Margo, but now that she and her crew are dead, no time for celebration, no time for a cigarette or a beer, now it's all about finding Steve Navarro and figuring out why he's on the run.

The Howard Stern Birthday Bash
  • All I wanted to do all day was go home and watch Howard's Birthday Bash online. I got home, got comfy and settled in to watch. Cablevision sucks. My streaming experience stinks. It wasn't Sirius's fault it was Cablevision's. I love Howard so much though that I didn't care, I sat there and watched as much as my Cablevision connection would allow which was 3 of the 4 hours.
  • Jimmy Kimmel rules but he was VERY sweaty, midway through the show and nobody gave him a towel. Very disturbing.
  • I know Robin's been sick, but I was a bit surprise at how heavy she was, so much for the Vegan thing.
  • Beth looked great and had multiple dress changes.
  • I skipped through the Black Keys
  • Joan Rivers and Jeff Ross were awesome. Joan is hilarious. Note to self I need to see her act next time she's in town.
  • John Mayer was amazing BUT he had on some bizarre shoes and a nutty necklace that I'm pretty sure you can only buy in Montana.
  • Heidi Klum's a tool
  • Jeff Probst can do no wrong
  • JD is sooooo awkward. SO incredibly awkward
  • Adam Levine is SO much more talented than he's given credited for. He and Pat Monahan from Train performed Prince's "Purple Rain". I gotta post it to Facebook when my Cablevision feed is working again…I'm obsessed.
  • Steven Tyler is out of his mind
  • I may not get Louis C.K.'s FX TV show, but he was amazing at Howard's Birthday Show. I love the guy.
  • I didn't realize that everyone in the audience had to wear earpieces to hear the show. You'd think they could make them less stupid looking.
  • Barbara Walters has a weird way of clapping
  • Wonder what Barbara thought about Whoopi's shoes and the fact that she has a vapor-pen and smokes it after the show every night
  • Bryan Cranston got a standing ovation from the crowd and was brilliant
  • Jimmy Fallon was there. Totally forgot about that! Loved Kimmel serving Fallon a shot of Ketel One. Classic. The impressions my FBFF did were amazinggggg
  • Hard to tell if Seth Meyers killed or bombed, the audience got out of control at a certain point and nobody was paying attention
  • Fred Armisen's rendition of "Blackbird" was funnier watching it than listening to it.
  • The reverse was true for Lena Dunham. Easier to listen than see her.
  • Jimmy Kimmel def looked awkward when Sarah Silverman came out to perform.
  • Highlight…Natalie Maines and Sarah's song "Stop the Clock" ruled!
  • No way Natalie Maines isn't gay (Not that there's anything wrong with that)
  • I had forgotten how interesting Howard's Letterman interview during  the party was.  Watching Jimmy Kimmel watch Howard interview Letterman was even more interesting
  • Katie Couric and her now husband were tooooo cute
  • "Silver Nickels & Golden Dimes" ahhhhh Jewel
  • George Clooney's just the cooolest
  • I totally forgot that Rosie O'Donnell was at the Birthday Bash and I forgot how awful her song was. Didn't realize Howard laughed his head off during it. Sort of changed things for me.
  • I skipped John Fogerty
  • Maria Menounos looked INSANE especially when she laughed.  She did have good questions for Howard though.
  • Psych, Little Mikey and Eli Braden…finally got to see what they look like. Not as weird as I expected.
  • As I started to watch the last hour, the buffering and streaming became brutal and I gave up…sorry…couldn't get that last hour in…time for Jack Bauer!  He can save the world, wonder if he can solve my Internet connection problems too.
THE OTHER STUFF

-I had every intention to watch Turn on AMC and I didn't. I'll have to decide if I should before it comes back next year since it just got renewed. Nobodies really talking about that one, that one or Halt and Catch Fire. What do you think? Tune in or not?

-Gordon Ramsay is done with Kitchen Nightmares, he's just not going to do it anymore. He's done.

-I cannot believe it is 25 years, but it is. Next week TBS will celebrate the 25th anniversary of my favorite comedy of all time, Seinfeld. They'll be running the 25 most popular and acclaimed episodes of the series. 4 episodes a night starting Monday 6/30 from 6pm to 10pm. The last day of the tribute, 7/5, they will run the first telecast ever. I've seen um all a million times, they never get old and I don't think they ever will for me.  So next week will be a Seinfeld Trivia week. Get ready.

-I know I'm probably the ONLY person who could care less about the World Cup. You guys are all into it, talking about it, streaming the games, yelling, screaming. Yeah…that's not me. I'm the opposite. Not only do I not care, all of you guys annoy me with the World Cup thing. I don't know what it is about the World Cup that annoys me SO much but I don't want to piss you all off so here are some World Cup facts:
  • The USA/Portugal game was the most viewed soccer match in the US EVER with an average of 18.2 million viewers. At one point, 22.9 million viewers tuned in.
  • WatchESPN had 1.3 million viewers with 61.6 million minutes viewed
  • Washington DC was the top market for the USA/Portugal game with a 13.3 rating then Columbus OH, NY, Boston and Hartford.
Tuesday's EASY Trivia Question: What is the name of Howard Stern's movie?

PS. I've seen the pilot episode of Tyrant on FX. It premieres tonight. It's awesome! Check it out!

The Blacklist broke its own record last week by delivering the biggest live plus three-day increase in broadcast or cable. The episode delivered an additional 5.62 million viewers vs. it's live plus same day audience.  While the audience is up 11%,  that is great news for the networks, sort of.  Advertising wise, I'm betting a very small amount of those 5.62 million viewers watched ANY commercials, tweeted, etc. Food for thought.

THE SHOWS

Downton Abbey
Thanks to this beautiful snowstorm, I wasn't able to commute to work this morning. I took the opportunity to watch last nights episode of Downton Abbey. Don't you love Downton? Last night had a few tiny comedic moments were I actually laughed out loud. Lady Grantham SO got Lady Crawley pretty good huh? The look on Lady Crawley's face when Peck or Peg or whatever his name is walked into the drawing room in his socks and apron was classic, but even more classic was the look on Lady Grantham's butler's face when she asked him to bring the gardner into the drawing room in the first place. Also enjoyable, Mosley. He's in, he's out, he's out he's in. That Mrs. Hughes, she knew Mr. Carson would take him back once he proved he'd do anything even serve tea to the servants. GASP! Too funny that nobody knew Mosley's first name and then had to ask Mr. Carson's permission to bag it altogether. Joseph will now forever be known as just...Mosley like Cher or Madonna. Mary's back to her old self...sort of.  I'm thinking she and Mr. Blake will end up together at some point. If you remember correctly, she didn't get along with Matthew at first either. She really doesn't like Blake at this point, which could only mean she'll be making out with him at some point.  How awesome was it that Mary walked in on Rose & Jack. Was that more shocking than Edith being preggers? Where is Michael Gregson? Do you think he's dead or are the writers going to have him show up just as Edith's in labor or walking down the aisle with some other dude? Loved seeing Mr. Carson's face when Jack walked into the kitchen. I felt bad for Mr. Bates and Anna but loved when Cora saved the day and taught that snobby maitre'd a lesson.  Buh bye Alfred.  Daisy's already missing you. I love Downton.

Girls
I was so obsessed with Superbowl viewing and how it would affect my Sunday night that I made sure on Saturday morning to watch Girls and Episodes. Why? I have no f'ing clue. I just hate Girls SO much. I hate Hannah, I hate Jessa, I hate Marnie and I feel like I never want to hear what they have to say again. Knowing this, I should delete my season pass for this show, but I can't seem to pull the trigger.  I mean, I know how to do it, I just don't do it. I couldn't believe Hannah could be SO inappropriate at a funeral and then so selfish yet again when speaking to her Dad and not asking or caring about the procedure he just had. I hate the "C" word and Lena Dunham never seems to edit it out of her scripts. I found it ridiculous and disgusting that right after Ray told Marnie how awful she is in general, she needed to have sex with him on his kitchen table that I'm sure hadn't been cleaned in months. However with all of that for me to b*tch about (and believe me, there's more) the thing that perplexed me the most this week was when Hannah subjected us to another "real" moment of her changing her clothes and choosing to put on a white belly shirt with plastic lizards all over it. WTF? This is a girl with no money...she paid cash for THAT shirt? I SO don't get this show. I so don't like this show and yet...I'll be typing the same stuff next week. Tell me to stop if you want. Maybe if you guys insist I stop watching it will give me the strength to delete the season pass. If not...til next week.

Episodes
2 things that made this show better than it usually is. 1) Merc Lapidus hat in hand (NOT) pitching shows he had already nixed to his ex and her having the b*lls to call him out on it 2) Jay Leno's cameo. Nice to see Jay have some b*lls too! I'm not sure if I've ever seen Jay curse or be an out an out d*ck before, but he was to Matt LeBlanc and hate to say it Jay, but I liked it. Not sure how I feel about Castor Sotto. Other than having a cool name, the guys just out of his mind and now he has this new problem?

Howard Stern's Birthday Bash
I've been listening to Howard Stern since 1988, I think. When I heard about his Birthday Bash, I honestly didn't try at all to get tickets. I thought about it a little, but for some reason I didn't try that hard. On Friday, I listened from 4pm as the pre-red carpet coverage began and didn't stop listening until the very end around 11ish. I was trying to remember the last time I listened to the radio all night long like that and I think it was when I was in high school waiting for my high school's Top 10 at 10 countdown. (Freebird was number one of course). For those of us who listen to Howard Stern everyday, and are part of this club, I'm sure you were checking your clocks to make sure you could get everything done in time to listen. Most of us don't always reveal that we are Howard fans to people we meet or people we know for fear of judgement, but once we find out that a person is a fan, we have a special connection.  I couldn't have been prouder to be a fan of this show on Friday night. The celebrities that turned up to honor The King of All Media's birthday who are part of my club did the King justice and made us all feel validated...finally. Validated for knowing all along that Howard's uber talented and is indeed a master. Master of riveting entertainment day in and day out. Master at revolutionizing terrestrial radio, and single handily bringing satellite radio into the mainstream. I personally want to thank Howard, Robin, Fred, Gary, and all of the rest of my faux family for making every single commute to work over the past 26 years as pleasurable as a commute can be. Happy Birthday Howard!

THE OTHER STUFF

I was in serious Super Bowl Sunday mode and didn't watch anything but the game (some of it) and the commercials (some of them). I didn't take any notes at all not even about the commercials. So my apologies for the worst Super Bowl coverage ever, but I'm guessing you don't need a recap since the media has us all a bit Super Bowl'ed out at this point.  I am curious though...what was your fave commercial or Super Bowl moment?

All those rumors about a Seinfeld reunion going around and I had a feeling it was for a commercial. I was right! Here's the entire thing in case you missed it during Half-Time.  http://www.crackle.com/c/comedians-in-cars-getting-coffee/jerry-s-next-guest-is-howard-stern/2491398#id=2491414&ml=o%3D12%26fpl%3D2122323%26fx%3D

I was devastated to hear of Philip Seymour Hoffman's death yesterday. What an amazingly talented actor and what a terrible loss. I have loved him for so many years. I think the first movie I remember him in was Twister, but where he really came into the mainstream was Boogie Nights. Remember?  Looking at IMDB his list of accomplishments are vast: The Big Lebowski, Magnolia, Talented Mr. Ripley, Almost Famous, Capote, Mission Impossible, Before the Devil Knows Your Dead (great movie), Pirate Radio, Doubt, The Master, Moneyball & The Hunger Games to name a few. He was amazing in all of these, but I remember him and John C. Reilly on Broadway together in a play called "True West". What was amazing was that both of them would switch parts on different nights. I was lucky enough to see the play both ways. It was mind-blowing. When I saw it with PSH playing Austin I couldn't imagine him playing Lee. Then I saw him play Lee and it just took my breath away that someone could be so incredibly talented and that they could memorize an entire play.  Truly, truly saddened by this loss. RIP PSH.

The Writers Guild Awards were given out over the weekend. Winners included:
Best Drama-Breaking Bad
Best Comedy-Veep
Best New Series-House of Cards
Best Comedy/Variety-The Colbert Report

Here are some crazy Super Bowl ad spending facts:
Prior to yesterday, Anheuser-Busch has spent 149 million bucks between 2009-2013 on Super Bowl spots. Pepsi has spent 97 million and Coke 63 million. Ironically, I'm pretty sure, that consumption of all 3 of these brands has decreased over this same time period. I know I read something on Yahoo about a beer "crisis" just this weekend.

-Taye Diggs joined Kelly as co-host on Monday's LIVE WITH KELLY wearing the silliest looking bowtie and a white blazer.  Call me old school but Taye needed to wait just a few more days to wear his white blazer...Memorial Day is Monday, so technically if he co-hosted next Monday, I would have still said his bowtie was silly but I wouldn't have called him out for the blazer...sorry Taye no white before Memorial Day!  Kelly had on a black lace top with a black skirt it could have all worked and then she too did something silly to ruin it...she wore a black satin ribbon as a tie...you couldn't even see the lace...huh??? Question for the Stylist: Are you looking at these people before they go out onto the set?

-As a devoted Howard Stern listener every morning, you would think that I would be sick of hearing about AMERICA'S GOT TALENT since he talks about it non-stop, but I'm not. I think the way he is playing his role on the show is sheer brilliance.  In Monday's episode alone, he won over parents when he took the stage to hug and comfort a 7 year old rapper who he didn't put through (the kid sucked) and senior citizens after putting through the rapping grandpa.  I am betting most of America is truly shocked at how much they are starting to fall in love with him.  Probably the same way that I am sort of falling for Nick Cannon.  Anyway, among all the acts to go through to Vegas last night, that were all interesting, there was this one guy who has the amazing ability to have his "private parts" (get the reference) get smashed by ANYTHING...anything!  Legs, wooden planks, a concrete boulder...insane and yet also amazing. Even Slash from Guns & Roses who was on Howard's show this AM, couldn't get over it.  Last nights one hour episode just flew by. It's going to to be a great Summer.

-A little break from the Bethenny/Jason drama on BETHENNY EVER AFTER that was mostly a flashback episode that seemed to all take place while Bryn was in Spanish class...yes it was Spanish for 2 year olds, but the brain surgery class for 2 year olds was sold out.  Only one episode left for Bethenny and the crew.  The series finale airs next week.  No idea if Bethenny's talk show will succeed or not.  Ellen seems to believe in her as she's the executive producer.  Luckily the show is going to be tested here in NYC over the Summer.  Can't wait to check it out.

-Dear Nina Tassler,
Thank you so much for renewing RULES OF ENGAGEMENT for the 2012/2013 season. I'm so glad someone forwarded my blog to you and you heard my plea.  Smart move really, as no matter where you've scheduled this show, it always resulted in decent ratings.  I'm betting the cast is relatively inexpensive at this point too.  Just remember this feeling and how you followed your gut instinct and made this decision so that this time, next year, you won't cancel the show, and if you do need to, perhaps you would consider a Russell and Timmy spin off?  Thanks again, Kristy Carruba

-On Sunday's NURSE JACKIE, Zoey finally broke up with Lenny which was kind of sad, like breaking up with a puppy.  Jackie met with her divorce attorney for the first time who just so happened to be her former sister-in-law, Janice Soprano.  I wonder how that went down.  Are Edie Falco and Aida Turturro close friends?  Did Aida say..."hey Edie, can you help your old friend out?" Charlie, Bobby Cruz's son, was causing a lot of trouble for Jackie and when she delivers him home safe and sound...Bobby and Jackie both got a huge shocker...roll credits.

-Also on Sunday, I gave MRS. EASTWOOD AND COMPANY a second chance.  The way I watched it was like this:  I watched the first 2 minutes live and couldn't take it, so then,  I fast forwarded to see if Clint showed up at all...he did, 42 minutes in, for a total of 2 minutes. For the entire 120 seconds that he was on screen, he was eating and pretty much incoherent.  Here's the thing...I really don't even like Clint Eastwood...He seems like a slow talking zombie with a  much younger wife  who is a completely annoying hyped up nutjob...so I am officially deleting this show from my DVR.  Buh Bye Mrs. Eastwood.

-ABC announced that they will be replacing THE REVOLUTION with a new show, an extension of GOOD MORNING AMERICA called GOOD AFTERNOON AMERICA.  (real stretch of a title there)  Josh Elliot and Lara Spencer will co-anchor and GMA regulars, Sam Champion, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos will "stop by" when they can for special appearances. The show will are from 2-3pm M-F.

-The 5th and final season, of BREAKING BAD, premiere's at 10pm on July 15th.  There are so many of you who continue to suggest that I watch this show.  I have the first 3 seasons on DVD and fully intend to watch it over the Summer.  I promise!

- After 8 seasons, A&E has finally pulled the plug on DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER. I've never seen this one, but I know it had a very passionate fan base.

April 2012 data from comScore's Video Metrix service:
  • 181 million U.S. internet users watched nearly 37 billion online videos.
  • The top five digital video properties on the web were Google/YouTube (157.7 million unique viewers); Yahoo Sites (53.6 million unique viewers); VEVO (49.5 million); Facebook.com (44.3 million); and Microsoft Sites (42.8 million).
  • Of the 37 billion video views, Google/YouTube was responsible for 17 billion, while Hulu and Yahoo accounted for 901 million and 742 million, respectively.
  • The average viewer watched 21.8 hours of online video content, with Google/YouTube (7.2 hours) and Hulu (3.8 hours) earning the highest average engagement among the top 10 properties.
  • U.S. internet users watched 9.5 billion video ads in April, making it another record-breaking month for video ad views.
  • Hulu led the way with 1.6 billion video ads delivered, followed by Google/YouTube (1.3 billion), BrightRoll Video Network (943 million), Adap.tv (881 million), and TubeMogul Video Ad Platform (831 million).
  • Total time spent watching video ads amounted to 3.9 billion minutes, with Hulu once again leading the way as it delivered 670 million minutes worth of video ads.
  • Overall, 84.5% of the U.S. internet audience viewed online video.

-As you know, this blog is a Kardashian free zone, but I continue to be so disgusted with America that I just have to rant and yell and say...I cannot believe that 3 million of you watched the season premiere of KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS.   That is an increase of 16%...that's ridiculous people!!!!
The show also attracted nearly 2.0 million Adulst18-49, up +20% over last season’s premiere. WHY PEOPLE??? WHY???

-I just had to mention that the inventor of the TV remote control, Eugene Polley passed away yesterday, at the age of 97.  Mr Polley...I personally thank you for your vision...I know you had me on your mind during the clicker creation process...thank you!
