-We started out alternating between the ALL STAR GAME and AMERICA'S GOT TALENT last night, but once the American League fell behind, we stuck with AGT.  Again...the 2 hours just flew by.  I agreed with Howard on almost everything, but completely thought he was way off base with regard to Tim Hockenberry's performance.  The reason AGT is so good is because Howard, Howie and Sharon are brutally honest, they provide really good feedback on ways to improve an act, and they seem to all be really rooting for the contestants.  12 acts performed last night and I am betting these 4 make it through to the next round.  Save this edition and check it tomorrow when the results are revealed.  (Ahhh that's really not necessary, I will completely pat my own back on Thursday if I'm right).
1) TURF the contortionist/dancer
2) Donovan & Rebecca the half naked, super strong, aerial artists
3) Tom Cotter the comedian
4) Tim Hockenberry the singer
and maybe...just maybe....5) Ben Blaque the guy with the bow and arrows (but I doubt it)

-At first I was SO happy to see Kelly wearing a perfect dress on LIVE WITH KELLY today, but then all I cared about was seeing Matt Bomer, so I didn't listen to the host chat segment at all and just fast forwarded right to Matt.  Here's why I love Kelly Ripa...because she was drooling over Matt just like I was.  She even offered to wax Matt if he ever couldn't find someone to do this for him, although I am sure he has no trouble finding help with waxing or anything else...I'm available too Matt, even though you don't play for my team, still willing and able to help in any way I can!

-Kelly performed double duty yesterday and appeared on JIMMY FALLON's show last night.  This is why I get so nuts when I see her on LIVE...she looked awesome on Jimmy's show last night.  Great dress, great hair and great shoes, and this is why I love her so much.  She agreed to play a "new game" called "Rock, Paper, Scissors...PIE"...check it out:

-Also caught up on a few episodes of GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS from Monday night.  First episode, Shannon, Sophie and Tracy all did posters to raise money for our troops.  Shannon and Tracy re-enacted their 1991 Playboy cover 25 years later...not bad I must admit.  Not to be outdone, Gene performed a concert and really paid an amazing tribute to the men and women of our armed forces. In the second episode, Gene agreed to go out on tour with a whole bunch of "mature" rockers like Sebastian Bach from Skid Row and a few ex Guns & Roses guys and Shannon's of course was pissed off about it.  I am getting the feeling that's all she can do lately is get pissed at Gene for being the guy she fell in love with.  In the mean time, she's worried that her awesome son Nick is following in his Dad's footsteps with the way he treats women.  Interestingly enough...she is right and now he is seeing good old Dr. Wexler.

-While THE CLOSER's premiere over on TNT delivered 6.1 million total viewers,  and PERCEPTION, the new Eric McCormack show delivered 5.3 million total viewers, they both were beaten by quite a few shows when looking at A18-49 numbers.  At 9pm, SINGLE LADIES, KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIANS, and AMERICAN PICKERS beat THE CLOSER.  At 10pm, PERCEPTION was beaten LOVE & HIP HOP, PAWN STARS and even LIZARD LICK TOWING...so don't let the numbers fool ya!

-While I'm talking numbers...I'm never home for afternoon TV, but I am of course rooting for Lara Spencer and the new "GOOD AFTERNOON AMERICA" show that launched on Monday.  So here is what we know (and I use the term loosely since we are talking Nielsen numbers) The premiere delivered 1.9 million total viewers, 359,000 of which were Women 18-49.  Is this good you ask?  Well, the show improved THE REVOLUTION's time period  by 40% on total viewers and 21% on W18-49...my question...how did it do versus soaps?  Anyone know?

-I feel like Hulu and Netflix are constantly in the press publishing viewership stats...all of them are compelling.  As much as I hate to admit it, Netflix does have a great story to tell and some great stats.  Here are a few...I gotta be fair right?

Monthly viewing on Netflix exceeded 1 billion hours (GLOBALLY) for the first time ever in June 2012 .

  • Assuming that "exceeded 1 billion" means 1.050 billion hours of streaming, and that over 90% of the consumption occurred in the US (or 955 million hours), and with the expectation that Netflix's domestic streaming subscribers will total 24 million for June 2012. This means the average Netflix subscriber watched 2,388 minutes of content in June. That is roughly 80 minutes per subscriber per day, or 40 hours per subscriber per month.
  • When comparing these numbers to the broadcast and cable viewership data that BTIG Research analyzed in October 2011 (which likely had higher viewership numbers than June 2011, for which numbers haven't been released yet),  Netflix would have been the seventh most-watched network among broadcast and cable networks, and second among only cable networks (above ESPN, below Disney Channel).
  •  Netflix is a seasonal business, just like TV, in that it benefits when traditional TV-viewing is at its weakest (in the summer/winter).

-And now, my first "medical correspondent"...since I refuse to watch medical shows and last night NY MED premiered, a good friend, WWTM reader, and apparently pretty decent writer too, ANNETTE YORKE has filed this report:

Tuned into NY Med tonight. Decided to check it out after I saw Dr. Oz promoting it on GMA. He said something in his interview that resonated for me and I thought I need to watch this. He had a patient that showed up faint of breath and it turned out he needed a mitral valve repair but he showed up alone. Dr. Oz says that when a patient shows up alone it's a red flag for him. May show that they are choosing to isolate themselves. To quote Dr. Oz a heart needs a reason to keep beating. Just when I think Oz is overrated he wins me over with quotes like this. Loved the resident that sang in the hallways. Dug her British accent and found her personality to be bubbly and charming. Loved the nurses commentary on their patients. Felt bad about the guy got projectile vomit in his eyes from the patient that has Hep C and HIV. Jeez...happy I don't work in a hospital. Loved the end when the patient showed up with flowers to thank his nurse and ask her to dinner. But how can I forget the 2 most heart wrenching stories. The gentleman that had the inoperable liver tumor and given 6 months to live and the young mother of 2 that had a brain tumor and had surgery to remove it. Luckily her story had a better outcome.  Will definitely be tuning in next week. Well done ABC News!

-Some news on the battle between Dish Network and the broadcast networks that are suing them over their ad-skipping technology.   Dish has been dealt the first blow. A federal judge in NY ruled that NBC, CBS, and FOX can pursue their lawsuits against Dish over the legality of the ad-skipping service in California. Dish had tried to stop this from happening by filing a claim against those broadcasters her in NYC.  This one is going to get interesting and I will be following it closely and hope that justice will prevail here.

-More carrier news...first Dish dropped the AMC Networks and now Direct TV has dropped the Viacom networks from their service since they couldn't reach a retransmission agreement.  Things are getting ugly out there.  All of those Direct TV homes that want their MTV and can't have it...not cool guys...work this out and work it out fast.  Kids without their Spongebob, means Moms who will need some Valium which probably isn't covered under their insurance...see the ripple affect?

--There were all sorts of rumors, but until it was official I didn't want to put anything about it in the blog...but...now I can: Comcast is selling it's stake in the A&E TV Networks for a little over 3 BILLION.  They are currently own the networks in partnership with Disney and Hearst and will be selling their stake equally to them both.   Of course it's all got to get approved, but pretty sure this one will go through easily.

-BIG BROTHER UPDATE: Only 1 more day until the premiere of BIG BROTHER and we know this morning that Danielle and Kaysar will NOT be returning as All-Stars.  Okay, I didn't really care that much when I saw that the were eliminated from the running.  There are still a great bunch left of All Stars left to play, so I am thinking positively and putting my faith in the BB producers that the best cast possible will return to the house and the game.
