Laughed with Cougartown, Cried with Parenthood

Note: Tomorrow's edition of WWTM might be a little late as the Oscar Nominations will be announced around 8:30am.  Also...last day to vote in the American Idol Poll.

The answer to Tuesday's Trivia Question: Okay it was a trick question, and only 3 people got it right.  Yes, Dave, Jay and Oprah were eating chips...who knows if they were Tostitos or Doritos but the ad was actually for Late Show with David Letterman. Check it out if you don't believe me:

I really need all my shows to come back soon.  Last night, I didn't have anything new to watch until 10pm. I flipped around a bit.  Hit some Jerry McGuire, some Big Bang Theory and even an episode of Happy Endings which I still don't find funny at all and then finally...10pm and Parenthood.

I would say this episode of Parenthood was one of the most poignant ones for me.  I think because I have a son of my own and all 3 key stories last night centered around the sons in the family.  The first son, Victor, the almost adopted son of Julia and Joel was really putting the couple through a lot and pushing them to their limits.  He even called the cops and reported made (false) child abuse claim. This left Julia feeling torn and unsure if she could move forward with the adoption and Joel well, he never knows what to do. Adam and Kristina had to deal with getting a very stinky Max to shower and explaining puberty to him.  While there was some sadness in Max, most of this part of the show was a bit light, which we need on Parenthood sometimes, especially with all that was going on with Drew who found out his girlfriend was pregnant. This kid just can't catch a break. First he suffered in silence and you could just feel him drowing in fear.  He finally went to his sister for help.  When Sarah confronted him he didn't tell her the truth, but then, just when I couldn't take it any longer, in the last seconds of the show, he showed up at her door in tears after his girlfriend went through with the abortion and broke up with him all on the same day. The entire episode had me thinking about my own son and the possibility of something like that happening in our family, I started to just feel heavy and needed an escape. Thankfully...Cougartown was back and all I had to do was head over to TBS (not ABC) where the gang and the wine would quickly help me ease my anxiety.

Nothing's really changed on Cougartown other than the channel.  The gang is still drinking cases of wine out of huge goblets, making fun of each other, and playing penny can. Courtney Cox must have gotten a double dose of Botox for the big move to TBS, because she looked really frozen and plasticky.  Bobby's eyes looked extra squinty, I have no idea how he can see out of them at all.  Jules and Grayson were still doing okay after their first week of marriage, just figuring things out as newlyweds normally need to do. Jules wore a really cool blue top to her therapy session.  I gotta try and track it down.  I hope it's from H&M or Banana and not Gucci or MIssoni or something.  Cougartown is mindless fun.  Sometimes mindless fun is exactly what you need and after Parenthood it was truly what I needed.

NEWS & INFORMATION:

-The Directors Guild of America announced this years 5 nominees for Best Director: Ben Affleck for Argo, Kathryn Bigelow for Zero Dark Thirty, Tom Hooper for Les Miserables, Ang Lee for Life of Pi and Steven Spielberg for Lincoln. Since I've only seen Argo in this list, I'll vote for Ben. I'm sort of bummed that David O. Russell wasn't nominated for Silver Linings Playbook, that was a really good movie too, but since there were no special effects, wars, killing etc. I could see why he was omitted...sort of.

-Last night was the premiere of Jimmy Kimmel's 11:35pm show. (as soon as ratings are in, Ill publish them)  I tried to stay awake for the big premiere, but just couldn't do it.  I usually watch Kimmel & Fallon when I get home from work and eat my dinner.  So yesterday, I watched Monday's "Say Goodbye to Midnight" show.  Of course it was a "best of" show, which I always love.  (I was also always a huge fan of "Greatest Hits" albums which are obsolete now, but that's another story and another blog.) Anyway Jimmy played my two favorite clips of all time (from his show that is).  The "I'm F*cking Matt Damon" gift from ex-girlfriend Sarah Silverman and Jimmy's classic rebuttal,  "I'm F*cking Ben Affleck".  In case you've never seen either one of them before, (or if you want to be reminded of how funny they still are) here they both are for your enjoyment:

-CBS announced yesterday that the Superbowl is sold out.  The going rate for a :30 second spot was about 4MM bucks and CBS doesn't want anyone to forget that they have the big game on their network.  They're starting the celebration Super early...in daytime on The Talk.  On Tuesday 1/29 Pat Monahan, lead singer of the band Train will join the girls and Train will take the role of house band all week to get all those women 25-54 in the audience geared up for Superbowl.

I don't have all Superbowl Sunday programming details just yet, but here's what I know so far for the big day:

11AM-Road to the Superbowl (Chili should be in the crock pot at this point)
12N-New Orleans: Let the Good Times Roll (Start prepping the guacamole)
1p-Phil Simms All Iron Team: Superbowl Edition (Wings should get going)
2-6pm-The Superbowl Today (Let the eating and the betting begin)
6-630p-Superbowl Kick-Off Show (Pigs in Blankets?)
630-whenever SUPERBOWL (Depends on who's playing as to whether I'll be chatting with my friends or paying attention to the game. It also depends on what numbers I have for my Superbowl boxes.)
As soon as Superbowl is over: Post Game Show (I'm going home and right to bed)
Post Post Game Show-Elementary (Not into this one)

Oh...and don't forget the BEST part of Superbowl Sunday...PUPPY BOWL!!! (On Animal Planet, not CBS)

-FOX announced that Bones for would be back for another season...anyone out there a Bones fan?

-I found this one a bit hard to believe...this basically says that close to 62% of US Internet users DON'T watch ANY TV online.  I don't know, I just find that number to be pretty high don't you?
US Internet Users Who Watch TV Shows Online or Through Streaming Services, Dec 2012 (% of respondents)

-I wasn't sure who would get the Lance Armstrong interview.  I actually thought it would be Bob Costas or someone like that, but no...Oprah got the gig. I hope she comes down on him the way she came down on the Million Little Pieces guy, James Frey.

-Sunday's night's premiere of Watch What Happen Live on Bravo was seen by 1.7 million viewers and a little over a million A18-49. Vanderpump Rules premiere on Monday night delivered 1.0 million A18-49 and 1.9 million total viewers, making it the network's highest-rated new series launch since Bethenny Getting Married? in June 2010.

-Yeah for me! Jerry Seinfeld's Comedian's in Cars Getting Coffee is getting another season.  Seinfeld will be back with 24 new episodes.  Currently the show airs on Crackle, and is pretty much exactly what the title says: Seinfeld and one of his friends get into a cool car (rarely his own),they go get coffee or a bite to eat, and talk about nothing. The first season of the show was only 10 episodes. I hope Jerry has 24 friends he can call.  I know I'd probably struggle to find 24 funny friends to go have something to eat with in my 1999 Acura.
Wednesday's Trivia Question: What was Jack Bauer's wife's name on 24?
