The Voice
Usher kicked off the show in a super cool suit, with even cooler shoes and reminded us of how amazing his dance moves are. Truly impressive, but man he can sure sweat up a storm. He was drenched at the end of his performance.  I doubt he had time to shower after his set which meant that he was STINKKKY for the entire show.  After Usher, The Swon Bro's sang Bob Seger's "Turn the Page". Adam came up with a Swon salute for their fans which was sort of lame. If I went to their concert, no way would I do that move Adam!  Sasha Allen took on Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" and did an incredible job.  A gutsy move at this stage of the competition. Next up Michelle Chamuel performed "My Remedy" and I just couldn't watch her. She makes me uncomfortable. After Michelle, the two blonds sang. Neither one did it for me, but man Blake was really into Danielle Bradberry and Adam looked a little perplexed by Amber Carrington even though he said she was amazing. The Swon Bro's came back out and performed "Danny's Song" which I loved and have every intention of  buying. The rest of the show was sort of boring to be honest. I honestly don't care who wins anymore, but I'm hoping it's The Swon Bro's.

The Winner Is
I swore I wasn't going to watch anymore singing competition shows and I meant it, but I had to watch The Winner Is for work.  The show is a combination of a bunch of other game shows out there. Big loud crazy set...check.  Nick Lachey, cute host...check.  Dueling artists...check.  A bunch of sad backstories...check.  Where the show differs a bit is that after each singing duel, the artists themselves are offered money to leave the competition or if they believe in their performances, stick it out and see what the 101 faceless music "experts" and bloggers have to say.  All of last nights performers apparently have amazing self esteem and a warped sense of themselves as performers because none of them took the money.  Even when the votes were 90-10, they all thought they were the winner.  Fools really.  Sure there were some people that had some talent but most of these performers were just regular people who like to sing and do other things to make a living.  The shows fine...but, now that I know what it's all about...no need to watch again, unless there's nothing else on and then...maybe.

P*ssy Riot: Punk Prayer
HBO will be airing some amazing documentaries and specials over the next few weeks. P*ssy Riot: Punk Prayer was the first in this series.  I never talk about politics in this blog. It's just not my thing.  Please...no judging. Anyway, I urge you all to check out this documentary if you have a chance. It's only 90 minutes and is the story of a political activist/performance art movement in Russia called P*ssy Riot.  These women raise awareness to various issues by spontaneously performing in surprising places with songs against the current Putin government, pro-feminism and other issues. They performed in a church and were arrested. This film shows you what happened in and around Russia during their trial. I really don't want to say much more and give anything away especially if like me,  you don't already know what happened to them.  It's an amazing story, an amazing look at Russian culture and a tremendous reminder of just how free Americans really are.  I never thought too much about my freedom of speech, but this documentary really made me feel lucky to be an American citizen.  Watch this one if you have 90 minutes to spare.

News & Information:

-Look, when I'm wrong, I admit I'm wrong...maybe NOT watching The Tony's was a mistake, the good news is that the entire thing is available online, so I was able to watch some of it last night in between everything else. I don't know if I've ever seen a better opening number than this one. Whether you're into Broadway or not, NPH is just insanely talented...this clip is long, but it flies by because it's just THAT good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BraXq07kkM

-It's official Community lovers, Dan Harmon is back as showrunner. He had to eat his words though. He said he'd only come back if Chevy Chase came back. Well...he's back but no Chevy.

-OMG guys...Cher is going to perform on the season finale of The Voice next week. The bummer is that she's performing a new song and not any of her old ones. I'd love to see her sing with Adam and then hook up with Adam...that would be fun, great for ratings and for the Summer paparazzi, but Adam likes um young, so probably not going to happen.

-The Nielsen Cross Platform Report for the month of March was released yesterday and here's what I learned:
  • Smartphone users spent 87% of their time using mobile apps and 13% of their time using mobile web
  • Women spent 28 hours 7 minutes and Men spent 25 hours 53 minutes using apps
  • Women spent 4 hours 23 minutes using web and Men spent 4 hours 1 minute
  • Ipad users spent 76% of their time using mobile apps
  • Women spent 15 hours 5 minutes and Men spent 12 hours 24 minutes using apps
  • Women spent 5 hours 5 minutes using web and Men spent 3 hours 23 minutes
  • Each month, people spent 1 hour and 15 minutes on their smartphones streaming video and 1 hour 48 minutes on their Ipads streaming video
  • Each month, people spent 1 hour 11 minutes on their smartphones streaming sports and 50 minutes on their Ipads streaming sports
  • Social Networking was huge. 9 hours 6 minutes on smartphones and 3 hours 41 minutes on Ipads
  • People spent on average 4 hours 39 minutes per day watching Live TV, 26 minutes watching DVR playback, and 13 minutes playing video games.
  • On average, A18-49 spent 28 hours/35 minutes watching traditional TV, 3 hours a month watching timeshifted TV (I have a hard time believing that number...way too low), 1 hour 33 minutes watching DVD's (REALLY???) 1 hour 9 minutes using a game console (remember these are older people so that sort of makes sense), 6 hours 2 minutes on the internet/computer, 1 hour 1 minute watching online video and 18 minutes watching video on a mobile phone.
-In addition to all that Nielsen data, a Pew Survey revealed that one in 3 adults now owns a tablet which is more than double the number that owned one a year ago. Half of adults 35-44 own a tablet which is higher than any other age category and not surprisingly they are higher income households (75K and higher).

-Apple revealed a bunch of stuff at the Worldwide Developers Conference yesterday.  The biggest news:

  • Apple has sold more than 600 million devices worldwide
  • Itunes app store has seen 50 billion app downloads
  • Currently there are 72 million Mac users
  • I didn't think there was anything MAJOR coming our way on IOS7...did you?
