For the record, I watched The Blacklist, How I Met Your Mother, 5 Minutes of The Voice, The People's Couch, Homeland, Betrayal AND My Jets win against the Falcons.

The answer to Monday's Trivia Question:  Lori Singer played Julie Miller on Fame.

Honorable Mention: NONE! But I will say that 2 people actually figured out the theme already. I thought it was tough, but apparently it wasn't tough enough.

The Blacklist
Love that Spader felt the need to go hat shopping before his next big mission. This time it was to find some guy named Woo Jing. Not sure exactly why, but Spader found him pretty simply. Lizzie had to pretend to be a cryptologist which she seemed to do pretty well for someone who was a bit nervous about her lack of experience. I'm confused, how come Spader's allowed to roam free now? Sure he has a chip in his neck, but if he can find this Woo Jing guy 10 stories underground in 5 minutes, couldn't he get the chip out and disappear too? Or couldn't he just rip it out himself?  Prior to meeting Spader for their big Woo Jing hunt, Lizzie shot her husbands gun to check on the bullets. Did you know that if you shoot a gun through phone books and into water it barely makes a sound or a splash? Me either. The report came back classified which was a bit intriguing. While Elizabeth and her husband were out, someone put camera's and microphones in their apartment. Some apple eating dude.  That was interesting. So was the code Spader got from his "friend". No idea what 042983 means yet, I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. I'm still convinced that Spader's Elizabeth's Dad...what'd ya think?

How I Met Your Mother
Okay...back on track with last nights episode of How I Met Your Mother. It was 2 days before the wedding and if you recall, Barney called Ted out for holding hands with Robin at the carousel and claimed that this was a complete violation of the BroCode. Barney went back in history to Brosis and Brolumbus but needed Marshall 2.0 to get to the facts. Since Marshall was travelling to the wedding in a Hummer, we could only see him via Skype, Viber or Facetime on an IPad. ( I wasn't sure what app they were using.)  Pretty funny actually. Linus was still feeding Lily drinks, but they must be pretty watered down, since she doesn't seem to be getting wasted at all. Lily called out Robin for not having any female friends to invite to her bachelorette party and challenged her to make one but then got jealous when she did. Barney booted Ted as best man and gave the gig to Billy Zabka from The Karate Kid. That assignment only lasted til the end of the episode, after Ted promised to move on and get over Robin. In addition to Billy Zabka, Marshall 2.0 and Ted at the poker game, Ranjit and Tim Gunn were also in attendance. Couple of observations...NPH's bod was looking good at the end of the episode on the lounge chair, Barney's suit was purple on my TV do I need to get Joe the AV guy here for an adjustment?

The Voice
Started out with a really cute, pretty talented guy named Matt. Adam, Blake and CeeLo turned around but Xtina didn't. When they did, they realized that the kid had been there before. This time he's in! Looked like CeeLo had his head refreshed with a brand new Sharpie, plus he had the Michael Jackson BAD jacket goin on.  We tuned out after that to watch the Jet game. At that time I realized that Hart of Dixie was pre-empted for my Jets, so I'll have to catch the premiere online later during the week.

You Gotta See This ALERT!
The People's Couch
Sunday night, Bravo aired a new show called The People's Couch and honestly...you need to watch it. The whole show is real people and families watching TV. They're all awesome, the shows they watched were awesome, and beside the fact that it's laugh out loud hilarious,  by the end of the episode you want to know more about the people on the couches. What's cool is that they watched this past weeks episodes of shows we all watch like the Real Housewives of NJ Reunion, Long Island Medium, Dancing with the Stars, Scandal and Miley the Movement on MTV. There were all different types of people watching. Traditional families, multigenerational families, straight, gay, African American, White, you had a great mix and what we learned was that the experience is pretty much the same across the board. The only difference is that some families and friends were funnier than others. The shows only 30 minutes.  Check it out!

Homeland
Isn't Homeland supposed to be about terrorists? Don't the writers know that we all make fun of Dana and her faces? Over 50% of Sunday nights episode was all about crazy or not crazy Dana. If we're going to talk crazy, we have Carrie. We don't need another crazy girl in a mental ward. We have that already, and the one we have is great at it. I mean did you see when Saul went to visit her at the end of the episode and she couldn't get the words out? That chin twitch? How did she do that? Enough crazy...bring back Brody! Peter's turning out to be a decent guy and now we also have Farrah, the new chick who's following the money and telling off the bankers. I would say for her first day it was 50/50.  Next week, Brody and Dana better be bowing down on that dusty carpet together or I'm going to get angry.

Betrayal
Did anyone other than "He Who Shall Not Be Named" watch the show Boss? If you did, you'd recognize Sara, the beautiful lead actress from that show. She was Kelsey Grammar's drug addicted daughter who was sort of a nun if I remember correctly. Anyway, I didn't even want to watch this show and of course I got sucked in. Now it's on the verge of getting cancelled and I'm into it. Mainly because Sara is gorgeous and the guy she's cheating with, Charlize Theron's ex Stuart Townsend is pretty cute. The premise is that both are married and are having an affair but Stuart, aka Tom, is the lawyer going head to head with Sara's husband in a big murder trial.

News & Information:

-90210 alert! Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth are reuniting as 2 retired 90's TV stars who open their own detective agency. Hoping their names are Kelly & Donna and they're married to Dylan and David and driving matching BMW wagons solving cases in between dropping their kids off at West Beverly Elementary School where Mrs. Teasley is the principal. Mrs. T protects the kids from sharks falling out of the sky until Steve Sanders gets there and saves the day.  The show starts filming next month and will hopefully air on ABC Family as soon as possible.

-At the end of October, the Trendrr data I report each morning will no longer be available. Trendrr was bought out by Twitter, so I'm in the process of finding a replacement. The good news is that the Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings are officially available. I have the weekly numbers included above.  I just need some time to understand what I'm looking at and how to use it for daily reporting. Hopefully before November 1st, I'll have it all ready to go. Times are changing and I'm doing the best I can to change with it. I would like to go on the record though as being the first TV blogger to report social buzz rankings. I've been doing it for almost 2 years, so I would like a little credit for being a trend setter before the trends were trending.

-Since it would probably cause a budget issue by changing the title to Newlyweds: The Second Year, Bravo renewed the show as is: Newlyweds: The First Year but they'll just follow 4 new couples instead of the first four in their 2nd year of wedded bliss. Since I never got into this one, no idea if the first 4 couples were people I'd want to keep watching. Anyone feel strongly one way or another?

The Blacklist
The Blacklist is a good show. It is and I'm sure it's going to do well for a long time, but net/net, it's a genre that I'm normally not that into. I've been pretty flexible since starting this blog because I want to watch what you guys watch.  The difference with this show and all the others in the genre is that his show has James Spader. His character is pretty compelling and could keep our interest for some time. Of course his list will go on and on until the ratings are gone. I'm betting Reddington's Agent Keane's dad or relative or something. This weeks episode featured 2 aging beauties did you notice? Now in addition to Jane Alexander, we had Isabella Rossellini guest star. She still looks good doesn't she?  In addition to Reddington and the next target on his list, Agent Keane also has to worry about her own husband and the box of money and passports she found under the floor. Must suck to not be able to trust anyone at all. So far this shows keeping my interest. It's all about Spader...he's awesome.

How I Met Your Mother
It was 52 hours before the wedding. No sign of Mom the entire episode which bummed me out. The ring bearer/ring bear battle between Robin & Barney continued as did their quest to find a spot for one last pre-wedding hook up. Only one problem...relatives everywhere.  Marshall was still in the yellow hummer with Daphne and Baby Marvin, Linus was still feeding Lily drinks and Ted was still hiding the fact that he was moving to Chicago.  Not much else really happened and the show wasn't crazy funny or anything.  The only big news was that the episode ended with Barney revealing to Ted that he saw him at the carousel with Robin. Roll credits. Bummer...was hoping every episode this season would be legen...wait for it...dary...not this one.

We Are Men
I really do love Jerry O'Connell, maybe because of his devotion to Howard Stern or maybe because of his role in Jerry McGuire (see trivia question), I don't know, but I felt compelled to try We Are Men...again.  I know I watched it during upfront season, a few months ago, but I couldn't remember if I liked the show or not, and then, I sawTony Shaloub laying in a pool and that was it.  CLICK...I can't stand Tony Shaloub. So done. No We Are Men for me.

Hello Ladies
I really wanted to like Hello Ladies. Prior to the other day when I posted that awesome lip sync battle on my FBFF, Jimmy Fallon's show, I had never heard of Stephen Merchant before. After the battle, I had high hopes for his show, Hello Ladies, but no go. While the show isn't specifically a British show, Stephen's British and I didn't find him or the show funny at all. So with the exception of Downton Abbey, my track record for shows with British characters in them is pretty poor.  I wish I understood what my problem is with all of them, there's definitely a theme here and not sure if I told you this, but my stepfather is British, so if anyone should get the humor...it should be ME! It's not...I've hated all but one.

The Voice
My son wanted to watch The Voice for a little while last night, so we checked in on it for a bit. It's a huge relief knowing that CeeLo's head tattoo is temporary. We tuned in when Malford Mulligan, who happened to be a black albino, was performing. The judges didn't turn around and I was bummed. Xtina looks amazing, but now she's not as much fun for me to talk about. That was it, just Malford and then I was out.

Revenge
I read that when Revenge returned this season, it would be back to basics.  No more Initiative, no more nuttiness, just back to the Graysons, the Hamptons, the backstabbing, the scheming and back to the revenge plot the entire show was based on.  We already know that on 8/8, Emily/Amanda is going to get shot twice in her wedding gown, we just don't know yet, who shoots her.  So we have that to look forward to, although you heard it here first...I'm going with Aidan.  Jack's back at the bar with the baby, he knows that Emily is Amanda, but he hates her guts. He's in a pretty bad mood, but can you blame the guy? He thought his first wife was the love of his life, Amanda, but she wasn't and she's dead. He was super close with his bro Decklin, but he's dead too. The closest thing he had to a best friend was Nolan, and he's been in prison all Winter so things aren't going too well for the poor guy.  Plus he's a single dad in the Hampton's where it won't be easy to find a sitter.  Emily/Amanda and Daniel are engaged but Daniel needs a job since Grayson Global's gone. Victoria spent the entire Summer with her not so secret first born son Patrick, who doesn't seem to own a shirt. (Although with abs like that, didn't bother me one bit).  Nolan's out of jail and back in cahoots (I love when I can use cahoots in a sentence) with Emily/Amanda. Conrad's now the Governor of NY, but everyone thinks he's dying of Huntington's Disease even though it was Emily/Amanda who messed with him at her big party.  Charlotte's home from her Summer in Europe with a new look.  I personally love the bangs. Victoria and Emily/Amanda joined evil forces and got Ashley to fly away for good and it looks like Aidan's back and going to join evil forces with Victoria to take down Emily /Amanda. If they stick to the "Back to Basics" plan, Revenge could be good again. I hope so...we all used to love it, remember?

News & Information:

-Tattoo's are popular, and people are obviously into them. Spike TV just renewed Ink Master for a 13 episode 4th season and 26 new eps of Tattoo Nightmares. That's good news for when I need a Dave Navarro fix.  He got killed pretty quickly on Sons of Anarchy so if I need him, now I know where I can thankfully still find him.

-Homeland's Season 3 premiere was its highest rated to date. Keep in mind that it was up against the Breaking Bad finale and still delivered a respectable 1.9 million viewers, 2.6 million if you add in the repeat.  This is a 9% and 26% increase respectively vs. last year.  Homeland is Showtime's most time shifted series and attracts the most DVR +7 and On Demand viewing per week of any Showtime original series with 69% delayed viewing which BEGS the question: Why not find another night? I'm free on Friday nights with NOTHING to watch!

-Record breaking GREAT numbers for Breaking Bad's series finale Sunday night.  10.3 million viewers tuned in to see what happened to Jessie and Walt.  6.7 million of them were A18-49.  Final ratings aren't in yet but it appears that the finale was up 300% vs. last year. Talking Bad, the show immediately following the finale, delivered 4.4 million viewers with 2.9 million of them being A18-49.

-Lots of great ratings stories coming in every day with the new season upon us...here's another one. The Blacklist, starring James Spader just broke a record for the single largest L+3 increase of any broadcast program to date including not only series debuts and season premieres but all additional telecasts. The 9/23 premiere gained an additional 4.3 million viewers...thats a 35% increase...from 12.4 million to 16.9 million.  Bummer that those 4.3 million people probably didn't see any of our spots, but it's still a huge live audience, so I'm sticking with it.

-Another cool ratings story for Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.  While the premiere initially delivered 12.1 million viewers, the repeat airing was seen by 4.7 million, 3.7 million time shifted the show on their DVR's and 1.6 million streamed the show online.  Which means that 22.1 million viewers have tuned in to check out the pilot.  WOW! Let's see how many of them all continue to tune in.

-Finally Facebook's opening it's books...sort of, they're going to start reporting likes and comments on TV shows which should continue to help with understanding audiences even that much better. All of the Facebook info currently included in Trendrr data was the public comments nothing else was available to Trendrr, I'm betting we'll see a lot of great info come out of this data. Thanks Facebook!

Yeahhhh the new season has officially begun...what'd you chose last night at 10pm? Blacklist or Hostages? Definitely let me know! I went with Hostages...

How I Met Your Mother
The one hour season premiere of How I Met Your Mother was filled with a ton of great stuff...
Marshall and baby Marvin were still on the plane heading home from Minnesota sitting right next to the very annoying Sheri Shepherd. Marshall was TRYING to walk his Mom through how to delete a photo text before the doors closed, because she had sent a photo spilling the beans about his judge gig before he got to tell Lily.  Have you ever tried to teach your Mom something on the computer? If you have then you know why Marshall got thrown off the plane! So they both got thrown off, and both needed to get back to NYC asap so they of course end up together in the last car available a Hummerlike vehicle called the Monstrosity.  Lily and Ted were heading to Farhampton for the wedding but Ted's road trip facts and driving gloves were driving her so mental that she insisted he drop her off at the train station. Ted, did drop her, but also brought up a great point...why would is it called a "glove compartment" if you aren't supposed to wear driving gloves? Food for thought right? Anyway...Barney and Robin were on THEIR way to Farhampton arguing over the right way to say RINGBEARER (is the er silent?  I use it) and talking about all the "wildcard" family members coming to the wedding. They stumbled on a mutual relative and for about 10 minutes thought they might be related, but thank goodness...they aren't. That was the good news, the bad news was that Barney's bro, James, is getting divorced. I'm not a huge Wayne Brady fan, have I mentioned that before? I'm just not. Note to self to try and use Canuckin Nuts next time my mouth wants to say F'in Nuts. It's WAY funnier. I loved the Game of Thrones, King Joffrey reference and the nickname THE MOM had given Ted...Lady Tedweena Slozby, and of course it's always fun when Ranjeet's in the drivers seat.  Did you catch that Curtis at the front desk was the dude from Revenge? This paragraph's WAY too long...cutting to the chase...Lily met Mom on the train and we saw Ted with MOM a year after the wedding and I don't know about you...but she's the one! I felt it...didn't you?

The Voice
I know I said I wouldn't and I thought I could stay away, but, I had to check it out...I just had to...not saying I'm sticking with it completely, but I needed to see the original Voice gang back together again.  Xtina's slimmer body seemed to bring back a fun more energetic Xtina to the show.  CeeLo's swirly-q big mistake head tattoo just had me upset.  I thought with Mike Tyson as the poster child for bad tattoo mistakes, we wouldn't see a debacle like CeeLo's gnarly noggin, but...nope...this one's just as bad,  with one exception. If CeeLo wanted to, he could cover up his mistake with a wig or grow some hair over it. The rest of the show is the same old same old. Groovy chairs, hot and bearded Adam Levine and his "Bro" Blake and of course contestants that all have sob stories and great voices. If it aint broken, don't fix it.  No commitment, no Season Pass, but if I have the time I'm tuning in.

Hostages
I've never been a huge Toni Colette fan, but I've always LOVED Dylan McDermott (and I don't confuse him with Dermot Mulroney who's in a similar show called Kidnapped this season).  Dylan McDermott's an FBI Agent involved in a mission to kill the President. He has a wife in coma, a daughter named  Sawyer, whose nickname is Soy Soy (which was the only laughing matter all episode) and a Dad whose also in on the plot. The Prez is having surgery and Toni Colette's his doctor. Toni's a workaholic, her husband, Jennifer Anniston's ex, Tate Donovan, is a cheater, their son Jake is a pot dealer who owes 1200 bucks to his boss and the daughter just found out she's the next Teen Mom and if that wasn't all bad enough, now they've all been taken hostage and won't be let go unless Mom helps Bobby Donnell kill the Prez.  Juicy right? What'd ya think?

News & Information:

-The Primetime Emmy's on Sunday night delivered better ratings than it has since 2006! It was up 33% in viewers and 26% in A18-49 vs. last year.  I want to thank all the great TV and NPH for bringing audiences back to the show. E!'s Red Carpet also reaped the reward of good TV, as their coverage was seen by 2.4 million people. Online, 1.6 million people checked out the show which was up 83% vs. last year.

-Sunday night's second to last episode (aka penultimate-just learned that) of Breaking Bad delivered a 3.4 RA18-49 with 6.6 million viewers and 4.3 million A18-49 viewers.  The numbers were up from last week.  While I'm totally psyched for the finale this coming Sunday, I'm going to be sad to see this story end. Not the same at all as when Friday Night Lights ended. I don't think I will miss Walt and the gang the way I still miss Eric and Tami Taylor, but I will miss a level of storytelling we so rarely get to witness. The bar has been raised yet again and I can't wait to see who's up for the challenge next.

-The series finale of Dexter also did well on Sunday night. Even with NFL, The Emmy's and Breaking Bad,  Dexter's final ep (don't tell me what happens...I'm watching it on the side) delivered 2.8 million viewers which was up vs. last years finale and this years premiere.

-Seems like Sue Naegle finally figured out that she'd make more money producing programming for HBO instead of buying it, so what does she do? She stepped down as  President of HBO Entertainment and cut a production deal with them instead. Pretty smart move that will probably result in a boatload of dough for her.

-Chalk up another win for The Dish Network, the company won in court and can keep its Hopper and Hopper Transfer products on the market. Fox took them to Judge Gee, not to be confused with Judy, or Mathis, asking to block the use of this technology that allows customers to broadcast TV signals to other devices.  They lost.

-Congrats to Adam Stotsky on his promotion to Prez of the new Esquire network. I need to check it out. I'm guessing I have it on Cablevision, but I'm not an underserved, upscaled guy, so I haven't been feeling like there's something missing in my life or anything.  I'll have to check in with my husband and see if he knows where I can find the channel. I'd say my husband fits the demo, but all he wants is the old Speed Channel back. You know the one that would show any form of racing all day every day? That's what he wants if anyone out there can help the guy out.

Tuesday's Trivia Question: This actor is predominantly on the big screen, but he did play Bobby Newport on Parks and Rec and a guy named Kirby on Sisters. Name him. (Remember...this is a theme week!)

I've been trying to plot out my week of viewing to avoid stress, but I'm REALLY freaking out about Sunday night...what are you watching? Vote today! It will help me out big time!
