THE SHOWS

Better Call Saul
I was hoping that from the rough cut of the first episode I saw a few weeks ago to the final cut that aired Sunday night, a few changes would have been made to the pilot, but it was pretty much the exact same same episode I saw without the watermark or the soundtrack. My issue with the first episode was that the first half hour was a bit slow paced. Vince was setting the stage and the tone. It was just too slow of a set up for me. Also as viewers of Breaking Bad,  we know that we need to pay attention to the details. The tricky part now is that there are new details AND old ones that refer back to Breaking Bad. Most of you don't know this about me, but I have a terrible memory. I don't remember words or entire scenes from movies like most guys do. (But I do remember to pick up milk.) Anyway we got what we needed from episode 1. Saul is now working at a Cinnabon reflecting back on his life. Before he was Saul. It all started when he was Jimmy McGill. Jimmy wasn't doing so great, he had a very sick brother named Chuck, (we aren't sure exactly what's wrong with him.) Jimmy was splitting his time between his dying brothers place and his tiny crappy office in the back of a Korean nail salon. He had a crappy car, zero clients, a ton of bills and was desperately in need of a break. He tried to scam a guy who had embezzled over a million dollars but the scam went bad and he and his skateboarding buddies ended up in the desert with an old friend from Breaking Bad…Tuco. Nothing good happens in the desert, but Jimmy's amazing talking skills did help him and his accomplices leave the desert alive. Sure they each had a broken leg, but they were alive. The desert is where things got going. Pace picked up, story picked up and now we have a show. There were great scenes with Mike from Breaking Bad in both episodes. At this point he's just a parking attendant obsessed with the rules and stickers and never giving Jimmy a break. Things start picking up at the courthouse for Jimmy and then…Nacho (I think that's his name but I could be wrong) shows up at his office. Not for a mani/pedi but for a side deal. He'll rip off the dude who embezzled the money and give Jimmy a cut. Jimmy just needs to find the money. And so this series begins.  It took a little bit to get to it but I think we got something here. What'd you think?

Parks and Rec
Who knew that Ron Swanson had a brother named Don Swanson? Too funny. Leslie and April headed to DC for some parks biz and after some great Senator cameos, (Boxer, McCain, Gillibrand, Hatch and my Senator, Cory Booker) April finally told Leslie that she wanted to leave her and find something else to do with her life. In Pawnee, Ben, Andy and Ron were already on that mission and went to Ben's old stomping grounds for some help. Once April spilled the beans though, Leslie had a mission of her own. Then it happened. A glimpse of the finale and all the ends getting tied up nicely. April found a job in DC, Leslie was offered a big promotion in DC and Ben's running for Congress so it looks like the Dwyer/Ludgates and the Knope/Wyatt's will all be moving to Washington together. You know the end is coming when even April gets all sentimental and sappy and tells Leslie she loves her. Favorite moment: Leslie and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright hangin out at the Lincoln Waffle House for some chit chat. Who knew Madeleine Albright had such great comedic timing? In the second episode, Ron and April went on a scavenger hunt looking for a key he trusted her with a long time ago. A bit of ridiculousness but the result…another sappy here-comes-the-end moment between Ron and April. A cute sappy here-comes-the-end moment between Terry/Jerry/Larry/Garry and Donna and Ben sticking up for his wife once again during the campaign. Only a few eps left and then another goodbye for all of us to deal with.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills
The gang went to the Burbank Film Festival to support Eileen's short film. Big news, Lisa V, Lisa R and Kyle all actually movie theatre food. I swear, I saw it with my own eyes. Apparently the food was better than Eileen's movie. Their reactions were priceless. Of course they told Eileen she was amazing and beautiful. She'll know now what their real feelings were. Yolanda did some yoga with Brandi and Keith the yoga instructor. Of course Yolanda doesn't go to a yoga studio like a regular person, why should she?  She has the ocean and pool for a studio.  Nice and calm and then Yolanda hit Brandi with her drinking and her behavior and begged her to take responsibility for her actions. So much for relaxation. After Brandi got hit with Yolanda's accusations, Lisa Rinna hit her with some too. Not a good day for Brandi.  Lisa Vanderpump was dealing with her son finding his biological family. Heavy duty stuff with tears and dramatic background music and everything.  Eileen tried to bring Kyle and Kim together but that resulted in more tears, and more background music.

THE OTHER STUFF

-The Daily Show without Jon Stewart? Jon Stewart without The Daily Show? Boy this late night insanity is crazy isn't it? No Jay, No Dave, and no Craig (not that anyone noticed) and now…no Jon Stewart. He gave a years notice of course, so we all have time to deal with it. Find a Jimmy! Someone find a Jimmy. Or what about a Stephen. 2 Jimmy's and 2 Stephen's would be cool. Chances of finding another funny Conan are slim but I'm sure there's a funny Jimmy or Stephen somewhere.

-Here's one idea: Brian Williams got suspended from his job for 6 months. So he's free to take Jon Stewart's job and Jon's now free to take Brian's. Work's out perfectly if you ask me. Brian already has experience in exagerating the news.

-I don't watch Billy on the Street religiously but when I've seen it, I do think it's hilarious. Good news for Billy Eichner, he just got renewed but he's taking his show from Funny or Die to Tru TV. Sounds like a promotion to me. See that? Another Parks & Rec tidy ending coming together. Billy plays Craig on Parks so we won't have to worry about him at all, he already has another show.

-IFC renewed Portlandia for 2 more 10 episode seasons. Yeah for Fred and Carrie. I still don't get it, but I know I'm in the minority. So for all of you that get Portlandia and find it funny. 2 more seasons comin your way.
