Mad Men
I'm guessing that a LOT of you guys watch Mad Men.  I'm pretty sure that since I've been writing this blog officially, Mad Men hasn't been on the air.  I feel like I owe a bit of an explanation on this show and my feelings about it.  So here's the deal. I watched the first 4 seasons and I never really loved it. Jon Hamm doesn't do it for me. For some reason the drinking, smoking and the way women were treated always bugged me. I don't know...I tried and tried to see what all of you and the critics saw which kept me watching for 2 seasons more than I wanted to and then, when the show took the extra long hiatus, I did too, for good. Sunday's are brutal, there's just SO much on and for me there is always something else I'd rather watch other than Mad Men. Right now, it's the super hot, Travis Fimmel on Vikings instead of the super boring robotic Jon Hamm on Mad Men. Please don't be disappointed or mad at me. I'm just back from vacation and a bit fragile.
Game of Thrones
It's SO hard to review and discuss Game of Thrones because I can't keep a lot straight and nobody has an easy name or title to remember. There's a ton of really dirty, smelly people trekking all over the place for various reasons. It seems everyone is trying to prepare to be King.
This weeks episode had a surprising bit of humor woven into it. First, at Lady Starks dad's funeral, her nephew tried to light his uncle's body and boat on fire, he missed 3 times before his Dad got fed up and took the matter into his own hands. Then over in Kings Landing when Tywin had a meeting with his kids and his closest trustees, there was a lack of chivalry when none of the men felt the need to get Lady Lannister a chair to join them at the table, but leave it to Tyrion to make a funnier moment funnier when he dragged his chair like nails on a chalkboard to face his Dad at the head of the table. All that work only to find out that Pops has made him Master of Coin which didn't sit well with him at all. Speaking of the Lannisters, Jaime and that giant blond chick Brienne seem to have formed one of those prisoner bonds as he actually saved her from getting gang raped which resulted in a shocking ending of the episode when their captors chopped off his hand. Pretty gory.  Not much King Joffery, this week at all really. Jon Snow and his new wilding friends made it to the Wall and found some crazy horse head pinwheel was all that was left. Sam's with the men of the nights watch and I'm really not getting that they all are still making fun of his weight.  Sure its weird that he doesn't seem to lose any with all the schlepping around and lack of food, but he doesn't seem THAT fat to me especially with all the layers every one's wearing. It's really hard to tell.  Theon got saved twice from the same guy. I'm not exactly sure who he is, but he cut him down from the X Factor contraption and then showed up in the woods right before he almost got raped.  A lot of cold showers for the bad guys of Game of Thrones this week I guess gang rape doesn't always pay out.  Dani's still in Qarth trying to trade a dragon for a bunch of slaves and a translator that looked like the guy/girl from The Crying Game. Last funny moment of the night...as a reward for saving his life, Tyrion gave Podrick (I think that's his name) a menage a quartet with what appeared to be some VERY talented whores, but when Podrick came back with all of the money it was Tyrion that wanted to understand just what Podrick did to have these women pay him for his services. We didn't find out but it was funny.  I liked having a bit of humor to break up all of the hard work of this show.  My head hurts when watching even though I love it.

Vikings
Vikings, aka Game of Thrones lite, doesn't make my head hurt at all. It's so easy to understand and we're really only following one group of people as they rape and pillage new lands. So, now that Ragnar and his wife Lagertha are in charge, things seem pretty good for their peeps. Ragnar and his crew headed into North Umbria and set up shop. They waited, they prepared and then they went to meet with the King who looked a lot like Captain Lou Albano from the old WWF.  Ragnar asked for 2000 lbs of gold and silver in return for a peaceful exit. The King of Umbria agreed, but only if one of Ragnar's guys became a Christian and got baptized and that the men all wait back in their camp until the Umbrian's got the gold together. They don't just have 2000 lbs of gold laying around.  Of course the King tried to scam Ragnar and attack his men, stupid guy. Huge battle, Ragnar's guys slaughter the Umbrians, and as usual Ragnar ended up with blood splattered all over his gorgeous face. On all sides, everyone's messing with the Gods and I think this time they might be pissed off, but I'm not positive. I'm pretty sure that Lagertha had a miscarriage but I'm not sure. There was tons of blood, she was hysterical crying and we didn't see or hear a crying baby.  She seemed pretty upset, but I'd be upset too without an epidural, so not sure what really happened to her. Of course the Umbrian King swore that he will get Ragnar Lothbrook, so I guess we'll be seeing Captain Lou again soon.
Nurse Jackie
Happy to have Nurse Jackie back on TV. Of course it's on Sunday nights when EVERYTHING else is on which adds to the pressure of Sunday night for me, but luckily the show is barely 30 minutes long. Anyway, Jackie's clean, Kevin and Grace still hate her, Akalitus is back in her original role as hospital administrator, Zoe's about to move out of Jackie's house, O'Hara appears to be leaving the show to go be a wealthy stay at home Mom who looks WAY too good for having just had a baby, Eddie got rehired as head of pills and meds, Bobby Carnivale is gone but there's a new doctor to hate who took his place. Coop is still around, still has Tourette's and still driving Jackie nuts. This week it was the day before Jackie's birthday, and a famous football player came into the emergency room after having flipped his Bentley. Turns out he swallowed 3 condoms of pills to hide them from the police. Jackie got the condoms from his poo and after washing the butt remnants off them, scammed some of the pills. Thankfully she flushed them all...well all but one, that she put with her wedding ring in her draw. Jackie scammed the football player and told him she wouldn't tell the cops anything if he bought the hospital a new 400K CT machine. Jackie rules.
MTV Movie Awards
Okay, maybe it's me. Maybe I'm old, maybe I'm not the demo, I don't know.  I see Award Show and I just have to watch. It' my crack, but the MTV Movie Awards was just the most offensive, awkward, unfunny, thing I've ever seen. While the VMA's are always a bit risque, the show is still done well and is a pretty major deal in the music business and attracts huge stars.  The Movie Awards are a joke. I just couldn't get over how offensive it was. I had doosh chills the entire time. I'm SO glad my son fell asleep by the time I watched it because I would have had to turn it off anyway. The little girl from Beasts of the Southern Wild, Quvenzhane Wallis, was in the audience and her Mom had to cover her eyes and ears, that's how bad it was. Here's the rundown:

Pretty offensive opening number between Rebel Wilson and James Franco. I mean really offensive Ironmangina, masturbation, trimming the bush, and a man pillow at 8:30? Really?
  • Rebel Wilson attempted to sing Miley Cyrus's "The Climb"
  • Jersey Shore guys attempted to sing Eminem's "Lose Yourself"
  • It's MTV, couldn't they get real singers?
  • Somebody I don't know tried to sing "Girl on Fire"
  • Rebel in Leather...uncomfortable
  • Melissa Mcarthy seemed out of breath presenting Best Male Performance to Bradley Cooper who looked like he just got out of the shower or spilled hair gel all over himself. Didn't matter, he still looked hot.
  • Bradley went all serious with his speech and Jamie Foxx, who lost to him, looked like "WTF is that guy talking about?"
  • What was with Rebels furry shoulder pads?
  • Chris Rock and Adam Sandler came out to present the Best WTF Moment of the year and the  bleeper bit didn't work at all especially when Chris really did get bleeped. Which is shocking that a curse would get bleeped but you can show pubic hair and fake nipples with no problem.
  • Best WTF Moment went to me while watching The MTV Movie Awards.  No seriously it went to Jamie Foxx and Samuel L Jackson for Django Unchained. Flash to Kerry Washington clapping like a smitten chick.  Still can't find confirmation that she's dating Jamie.
  • Best Fight was presented by the Star Trek cast to The Avengers cast.
  • Trailblazer award went to Emma Watson...Trailblazer? Really? Jonah Hill tried a funny taped bit declaring that he and Emma are starring in 50 Shades of Grey. Stupid
  • Steve Carrell and Amanda Seyfried presented Best Kiss to Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Brad's hair didn't look any dryer so I'm guessing he just over gelled.
  • No idea what exactly Snoopy Doggy Dogg Lion and Ke$hia were smoking but they came out to introduce Mackelmore and Ryan who didn't sing Thrift Shop. No Tags were popped
  • Every single thing out of Rebel Wilson's mouth was either profanity or just plain foul.  Like when she went to put her Koala cam on Chris Evans crotch and it was crazy hairy...never mind.
  • My fave Game of Thrones guy, Peter Dinklage, who isn't British, presented Will Ferrell with the Comedic Genius Award, by this time I was so disgusted that I just fast forward through his speech.
  • Curious where one can by a 3 piece money print suit.
  • Fast & Furious cast was on hand to plug the 6th installment of the movie and present Breakthrough Performance to Rebel Wilson
  • Zac Efron, looked like the last thing he wanted to do was kiss Rebel Wilson "Down Under" as she requested
  • Zac, Seth and Danny did a "Best Bottomless" thing which again was completely offensive. So much so that Quevensane Wallis's Mom was truly covering her eyes.
  • Best Shirtless Award went to Taylor Lautner who had on a prosthetic tummy and pockets filled with candy...lame
  • Best Villain went to to Tom Huddelson for The Avengers
  • UGH...Kim Kardashian introduced Selena Gomez who lip synced  "Come and Get It"
  • The Generation Award was presented to Jamie Foxx by Kerry Washington who really wants him bad.
  • Show over...thank god
NEWS & INFORMATION

A lot happened while I was away, and in this world of zero latency I'm sure you guys know most of it all by now, but just in case you were waiting for me to fill you in, here are the notes I made during my vacation:

-15 million viewers tuned in to the Academy of Country Music Awards last Sunday resulting in an all time high 4.3 RA1849.  I didn't see the show but I heard Blake Shelton looked especially hot and rocked the house.

-Last Sunday's Season premiere ratings for Mad Men were flat to it's last season premiere delivering a 3.5 RA1849

-Bates Motel and Vikings were both renewed for a second season, (Congrats to Travis and all my fave Vikings) and Being Human over on Syfy was renewed for a 4th season.

-In the light of the death of Shain Gandee, MTV cancelled Buckwild.

-Last weeks premiere of Olive Oyl's Ready for Love didn't do that great. I'm not that surprised.

-Pandora hit the 200 million subscribers mark last week

-Lots of talk that Alec Baldwin was going to get Carson Daly's time slot, but Carson's show was renewed.

- I'm guessing that the Moonves/Chen family is going to be cutting back just a bit this year. Les's salary actually went down by 11% to 62.2 MILLION dollars.

-Last weeks Survivor was the most confusing tribal council ever...I don't know if I have vacation brain or what but I watched twice and am still confused as to WTF happened.

-This Aereo thing seems to be a pretty big deal. I was trying to figure out an easy, quick way to explain it but The Forbes article does a pretty good job and I thought you might want to read the entire thing. It's a big deal in my mind. http://www.forbes.com/sites/tristanlouis/2013/04/13/aereo-the-future-of-tv-is-here-today/

-I don't watch The Simpsons, but I do watch, and love, Breaking Bad, so I have to post the writers tribute to one of the best shows on TV ever, check it out:  http://www.pastemagazine.com/blogs/awesome_of_the_day/2013/04/watch-the-simpsons-pay-tribute-to-breaking-bad-in-opening-credits.html

-Last week on SNL, my favorite Game of Thrones guy made a special guest appearance, for anyone that missed Peter Drunklage you have to see this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/08/peter-dinklage-snl-drunk-uncle-skit_n_3039385.html

-As you know if you read my Saturday post, I'm obsessed with Scandal and Olivia Pope. Here's why: http://www.vulture.com/2013/04/scandal-olivia-pope-supercut.html

-Did you see Tom Cruise play Egg Russian Roulette with my FBFF/FTSH Jimmy Fallon the other night? If not, check it out: http://mashable.com/2013/04/14/tom-cruise-fallon-egg-game/

-The Hollywood Reporter released its list of the 35 most powerful people in media. If you're interested, here's the list: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/most-powerful-people-media-new-york-matt-lauer-diane-sawyer-309166/group/H%20-%20N

There was more...but this post is WAY too long as it is!

Monday's Trivia Question: Vern Schillinger, Tobias Beecher, Chris Keller & Augustus Hill all were inhabitants of what prison? THE REAL NAME NOT THE ABBREVIATION.

- SPOILER ALERT: I really need to rewatch the GAME OF THRONES finale. I think I am still sort of confused...but I will give a shot here.  Okay so the Lannister's won the battle of Blackwater, I get that.  But wasn't Tyrion a major part of why they won, considering that King Joffrey/Geoffery went and hid in his room?  Why is he banished now?  And...why when King J/G's grandfather came back from battle wouldn't he take the thrown?  I thought, that J/G's mom was actually doing a good thing when she allowed J/G to dump his current Stark fiance for the gay Kings wife, but then when Lord Barish promised to get her back to Winterfell or help her escape and she declared Kings Landing as her home...maybe not.  Rob Stark got married, and Jon Snow proved worthy of freedom...sort of,  and of course my favorite part, Khaleesi had a weird dream/magical thing with Kal Drago and her baby but of course in the end she got her dragons back.  Did I capture it?  I am sure I will have less questions once I watch it all again. Sad to see Winterfell fall...but it's gone and now all the Starks have to somehow find each other and a place to live.

-I did also watch the MTV MOVIE AWARDS which were kinda of lame and also, not really appropriate for my 10 year old.  I think there were 6 bleeps...maybe more.  Tons of profanity and even the first award which I believe used to be called Best Villain, has now been changed to Best Dirtbag??? Was that necessary?  Also, way too much Kristen Stewart for me, I know she was promoting her new movie Snow White and the Huntsman, but really the girl can't speak and is just so awkward. I also hat the sneakers with the dress look.   Charlie Sheen looked high on something didn't he?  Emma Stone is awesome and she always is.

Most of the awards last night went to either The Hunger Games, Twilight or Harry Potter...I have an idea...maybe MTV and Nick should combine award shows because the TEEN CHOICE AWARDS, THE KIDS CHOICE AWARDS and this show all pretty much ask the same audience to vote for all of these same movies. Broadcast on both networks and call it day...saves money and DVR time all around.  Oh, and one note to Joe Perry from Aerosmith...spit out the big fat wad of gum when you are going up present an award...it's disgusting and a bit disrespectful no matter how cool you may be.

-On Friday, Mike Greenberg was Kelly's co-host again on LIVE WITH KELLY.  Kelly seemed to be all flustered, maybe because Chris Hemsworth and Joey Lawrence were on the show? She forgot Mike's name and she really seemed to be into Joey...there was definitely something weird going on over there.

-Jennie Garth took her kids and her nutty assistant Corinne on a camping trip on A LITTLE BIT COUNTRY Friday night, which was really so that she could discuss moving back to LA with the kids in order to help Luca (Jennie's daughter) with her singing career.  The problem is...nobody wants to go.  Of course they didn't make a decision,  but they were able to get the tents up, get a fire going and pee in the woods.  So I guess I would consider that a successful trip.

-Saturday night TANKED aired another great "best of show" that featured the most challenging tanks the guys have built to date.  It was great for me personally because I got to see a bunch of builds from the first season AND I was texting with Brett the entire time...who needs Twitter?   The guys built this one tank that was 70,000 gallons it was in a church and was unbelievable. I know a lot of you guys have checked the show out...hope you saw this episode it was really cool.  Next week, the guys build a KISS tank for Gene Simmons and the band, I can't wait to see that one.

-It's official, Andy Samberg is leaving SNL...no more SNL Digital Shorts??? That was my favorite part of the show.

-In Andy Cohen's awesome book, he talked about this REAL HOUSEWIVES OF SNL spoof.  I didn't remember seeing it and it is pretty funny, thought I'd share:

-Some Comscore data for the month of April:
  • Google's Android is continuing to expand its share of the domestic smartphone market, accounting for 50.8% of US smartphone subscribers, which is a 2.2% increase from the previous three-month average.
  • Apple's iOS remained in second place, increasing its share of the market from 29.5% to 31.4%.
  • RIM (11.6%; -3.6%)
  • Microsoft (4.0%; -0.4%)
  • Symbian (1.3%; -0.2%) rounded out the top five
More than 107 million people in the US owned smartphones during the three months ending in April, which is up 6% versus January. In terms of mobile content usage:

  • 50.2% of US smartphone subscribers used downloaded apps in the three months ending in April 2012 (+1.6% over the previous three-month period).
  • 49% used a browser (+0.5%).
  • 36% accessed a social networking site or blog (+0.3%).
Monday's Trivia Question: Richard Dawson passed away over the weekend.  I grew up watching Richard kiss a every woman on FAMILY FEUD but prior to that he appeared as a regular on a 60's sitcom as Capt. Newkirk...name the show.
