WATCHING WAY TOO MUCH 9/21/11

-The answer to Tuesday's Trivia Question: Dharma & Greg were the other two
celebrities looking at Charlie's house in 2 1/2 MEN I want to thank Alex Nagler for
doing the work for me on this one...we both wondered why Jenna Elfman and Thomas
Gibson were in the show...the reason...Chuck Lorre first started using vanity cards
when he worked on Dharma & Greg as a writer. So I guess, he called in a favor.

-It is always hard to gauge how any show will do for the season based on the premiere
week numbers, but WOW...TWO & A HALF MEN on Monday night pulled a 10.3 rating
and was viewed by 27 million people in the US on and 5 million Canadians tuned in as
well! (Not sure why it is such big news that Canadians watched, but everywhere I went,
the story was the Canadians watched too...so I felt the need to include our Maple Leaf
neighbors). 2 BROKE GIRLS obviously benefitted from the amazing lead in, but still
dropped off quite a bit.  DANCING WITH THE STARS didn't fare to well it seems, but
again, there is time for everything to settle in...I kinda feel bad for THE PLAYBOY
CLUB...it seemed to get clobbered by CASTLE and HAWAII 5-0 at 10pm.
-Last night, after the Yankee game (they won 5-0), I did catch 30 minutes of the
CHARLIE SHEEN ROAST before passing out cold.  What I was able to stay awake for,
was hilarious and it was great that Charlie was such a good sport too. The show
delivered 6.4 million total viewers and a 4.5 rating, and now has the distinction of
being Comedy Central's most-watched and highest-rated roast ever in the franchise's
history.  I can't wait to see the rest of it tonight in between X FACTOR and MODERN
FAMILY's premiere.

-It's time again for...FACEBOOK FACTS... FACEBOOK is on track to more than double its
revenue this year, thanks to a big boost from ad dollars and from Facebook Credits.
Facebook should reach $4.27 billion in revenue in 2011, up from $2 billion last year,
according to a new eMarketer report.  Facebook Credits should generate about $470
million, an increase from $140 million in 2010. Advertising should clock in at $3.8
billion, more than double last year's $1.86 billion. The portion of revenue from ads will
dip to 89% from 95% of total revenue as the new venture grows, eMarketer said. Look
for the site to take in about $5.78 billion in revenue in 2012.  WOW!  All I can really
say is...WOW

- With the added component of social to our TV viewing experience, a lot is changing.
As a person in the advertising and marketing business, and a TV viewer, I have been
questioning how engaged viewers/consumers can really be with the program they are
watching, and, more importantly with the ads we are placing. The sponsorship of social
features surrounding entertainment programming content can lend a big boost to brand
favorability, purchase intent and perceptions of brand leadership, connection and
product quality, according to a new study from Yahoo. Yahoo analyzed a campaign that
an automotive brand did surrounding the Academy Awards. Social voting in particular
can drive site engagement, the study said, suggesting that brands may indeed benefit
from adding social components to online campaigns. The report found that after only
one exposure, 40% liked the brand more because of their sponsorship of social
features.  This is all great, but has anyone tied all of these great figures to sales at all?
Yes a brand needs to be relevant to their current and potential customers, but does all
of this added exposure etc.  have any affect at all on sales?  If anyone knows of a case
study that shows this somewhere, I would love to see it.

-One in six Americans now use an eReader, up from one in ten just a year ago,
according to a new Harris Poll. Of those who don't have an eReader, about 15% will
buy one in the next six months. The study also found that those who have eReaders are
reading more books than they were before. About 16% of Americans read between 11
and 20 books per year, with one in five reading more than 20 books per year. Among
those with eReaders, about one third read 11 to 20 books per year, and more than one
quarter read more than 20 books per year. I wish I read between 11 and 20 books a
year but of the 4-6 I do read a year, it is definitely a much better experience on my
Kindle and it is way up from the 1-3 books I read prior to owning a Kindle.  Now, my
son is using a Kindle at school and is definitely reading more books in a shorter amount
of time.  I would love to have all of his text books on that thing, it would make his
backpack a lot lighter!

-I have been getting a lot of notes from people who know that I am kind of at a
crossroads with my Netflix relationship and I just don’t know what to do.  Today, I
read a great "Letter to Netflix" on EW.com.  Thought I would share it, as I think
whoever John Young is (could that be his real name???, he understands me and maybe
so many others and wrote a great piece explaining just how he feels.  I can't promise
that this is my last Netflix note, but I will try not to comment on it to much moving
forward...unless of course something big happens.  If you are interested, check out

-Wednesday's Trivia Question:  The CHARLIE SHEEN ROAST was hosted or emceed by
Seth MacFarlane.  What show is he famous for creating?
