-As most of you know, I don’t sleep much, it’s not because I don’t want to and I’m not tired, it just doesn’t happen. For the past 3 nights, my husband and I have been experimenting with switching our sides of the bed that we have slept on for over 20 years and it must be working because not only am I sleeping better, but I am sleeping through the night which is truly a miracle. The down side is…I seem to fall asleep earlier, which means I didn’t watch much TV last night. Not that there was much on to begin with. I have been Tivo’ing LIVE WITH KELLY. This week Neil Patrick Harris is co-hosting and he is PERFECT for the job. They look good together, he is a natural, and actually seems to enjoy the gig. Pretty certain it’s impossible for him to do long term, and I would feel torn about him giving up his role as Barney, but excellent nonetheless.
-Next up for me was a repeat of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER that I had never seen before. I guess it was last year’s Thanksgiving episode. It was a good one, don’t know how I missed it. Anyway, I totally had a light bulb moment while watching and never made the connection that Zoe (Ted’s love interest from last year) is Emma Swan on ONCE UPON A TIME. I felt like the biggest idiot when I realized it. Must be the lack of sleep all that time.
-Guess nobody is listening to me about boycotting the Kardashians, and nobody cares about the ridiculousness of their fame other than me…as much as it pains my fingers to type this, the season premiere of KOURTNEY AND KIM TAKE NEW YORK drew 3.2 million viewers on Sunday night and was the series’ most watched season opener ever. Up 6% over last year. Even in adults 18-49, 2.3 million viewers tuned in which is up 8% over last year. What is it about this family and these women that make everyone so interested in them? Even around here in my row at work, everyone loves talking about them and watches the show…I am the only holdout. I just don’t get it.
-Okay, I Tivo’ed and started watching BEING CHAZ, which is the follow up to BECOMING CHAZ…again, it’s just riveting TV to me. I see him/her now, but it’s super difficult to not see the cute little girl from the SONNY & CHER show. And what is with the girlfriend Jen? Now, as a man with tons of artificially ingested testosterone flowing, CHAZ is as irritated by her as any man (or woman…she started out a lesbian right?) would be. Chaz bought and gave Jen an engagement ring, but it doesn’t look like they will ever actually get married because while Jen is willing to sign a pre-nup with regard to finances, CHAZ wants to include that she never have another drink. Apparently she is an alcoholic and she is refusing to sign the contract if it includes her not drinking. Train wreck…yes! Must watch…yes! I guess now I get why people watch the Kardashians.
-FOX can thank X FACTOR for its big Fall Sweeps win this year. Here is the way the Big 4 finished out November against RA18-49:
FOX 3.1 up 15% vs. year ago
CBS 2.8 up 4% vs. year ago
ABC 2.5 down 4% vs. year ago
NBC 2.3 flat vs. last year
- Analysts are predicting that there will be 200,000 fewer subscribers signing up for Pay-TV services in 2012. This is being attributed to fewer new households and households opting for less-expensive alternatives to cable in the current weak economy. "Cord-avoiders," or viewers who select cost-effective alternatives like Hulu and Netflix (even with their ridiculous increase, they are still cheaper than cable!) and who may not return to cable and satellite services when the economy improves, are cited as the immediate problem facing the industry. However, the report also notes that the real problem could manifest in the form of "cord-nevers"; or younger generations who might grow up "in an internet-based video culture in which the mantra of 'why pay for TV?' and 'pay TV is a rip-off,' develop. As they age, some of these consumers will choose pay-TV substitutes to satisfy their video needs. Call me crazy, I agree on some level here, and yes it is a trend and a bit of a concern, but I don’t’ think we will ever lose the cuddle up on the couch and watch TV experience, especially in a country so sports obsessed. I guess I may be the one eating my words, we shall see…
-For all of us Bethenny Frankel fans, her talk show is officially dead. Apparently with all of the other talk shows on the slate for next year, no room and no interest for Bethenny. Bethenny, if you read this…I suggest an online talk show. After watching the highest ranking web series over the holiday weekend, I am pretty certain you would have tremendous success taking your show online. Oh and if you’re reading this…love the Skinny Girl Sangria!
-Tori & Dean are back tonight…I like them…if I can stay awake on the left side of my bed tonight, I will be watching. Also tonight, my favorite holiday special…RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER…truly a classic. For any of you that haven’t jumped on my PARENTHOOD bandwagon yet…it’s on tonight at 10pm.

-Tuesday’s Trivia Question: Last night, Dr. Seuss’s HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS was on…another holiday classic. Let’s see if any of you know who the famous narrator was. I didn’t know this one until I looked it up...I will be shocked if I have 5 correct answers.
