-Eddie Murphy has been tapped with the enormous burden of hosting the OSCAR's this
year. MTV didn't have a host for this year's VMA's and had the highest numbers ever. I
don't know why we have to put so much pressure on the Oscar host. Years ago,
Johnny Carson was the host and did a great job and then Billy Crystal came a long and
in my opinion hit it out of the park FOR THAT TIME, but hey Oscar people...THAT WAS
A LONG TIME AGO, times and audiences have changed...bring the Oscar's into the new
millennium...Eddie could be great, or...not, but my point is sometimes you need to step
back a bit and remember who your audience is and how to best connect with
them...same format from a million years ago (okay so I am exaggerating a bit) may not
be needed or embraced now. Just think about it Academy.
-Didn't Regis already announce his retirement? We all knew it was coming...so what
perplexed me last night was...why don't they have a clue who his replacement will be
yet? Maybe they do and they are just pretending not to know...but in all the reports I
saw/read, they are saying that Kelly will be trying out different co-hosts to determine
Regis's replacement. Again...haven't they done this already? Talk about stunting...and
dragging it out. Just tell me already.
-As I expected, Jenny Poulus, Jeff Lewis's loyal sidekick is not only staying on with the
company and FLIPPING OUT, but she has decided to except a full time position and I
guess put her crazy kid rapping career on the back burner for now. How crazy was her
rapping last night? Between her and Melissa Gorga, I don't know who makes me laugh
more when they are in the booth recording. Were Jenny's producers Souldiggaz???
Anyway, I am just glad she is staying on. As long as I have Jeff, Zoila and Jenny, I will
still watch. Kinda bummed that Jeff and Gage are settling down, buying a house and
planning a family. Jeff needs someone else, not Gage.
-Susan Lucci has turned down an offer to continue on with ALL MY CHILDREN once the
show goes 100% online. While it could be a negotiating tactic (in my opinion, they
need her to help transition the audience). Lucci was offered the same salary she
currently earns, but she wants more money and less hours. (Don't we all Susan?) I am
betting Prospect Park comes through but only time will tell. Stay strong Erica
Kane...you'll get what you need and deserve.
- The season finale of KEEPING UP WITH THE KARDASHIAN'S on E! averaged more
than 3.3 million total viewers as well as posting a 3.93 rating with W18-34 and 1.1
million viewers in the demo. Pretty impressive for a show about these woman that are
famous for...??? What are they famous for again?
-I gotta give a bit of a shout out to Jay Mohr, I don't know if it's just my
perspective...but Jay seemed to kinda just be there...you'd see him here or there, if you
were an Opie & Anthony listener here in NYC you would hear him from time to time on
their show. Anyway, he has done such a great job using Twitter and blogging for
Bravo that he now has the number one podcast on Itunes and has parlayed all of that
into a regular role on the new series Suburgatory. Interesting choices that just go to
show how you have to think differently in today's media landscape. I listened to Jay's
podcasts when I was on the beach and of course they were funny, but they were also
really interesting as well. He discussed Tom Cruise and how he got the role as Bob
Sugar in JERRY MCGUIRE and he also discussed working with Jennifer Anniston on a
movie I loved called PICTURE PERFECT where he described how incredibly mean
America's sweetheart was to him. If you have nothing better to do, it's great listening
and if you haven't checked out his blog on Bravo...you should.
-While I was away, I read a lot and kept some of the interesting facts to share when I
got back...didn't want to bombard you all my first day back,(I know my report
yesterday was WAY too long) but here are a couple:
-According to an eMarketer report, a research study found that, even though mobile
users only spend 7% of their time on their phones shopping, it is while they are
shopping that they are most likely to engage with ads they see on their device.
Furthermore, mobile users also prefer to use a browser to shop, instead of an app.
-21% of U.S. households possess almost 60% of total U.S. household wealth and 70%
of all U.S. consumer wealth.
-While affluents consume less television and radio, they are the heaviest users of digital
media, spending an average of 26.2 hours online every week compared to an average
of 21.2 hours for the general population.
-More than 33% of affluents agree with the following statement: "I am usually willing
to share some information about myself online so that I can get a more customized
online experience."
-One last note...since I have started commuting again...I have been in terrible traffic
even at 6AM and all I keep thinking about is "damn, I wish I had that Car Periscope
from CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM". Is it me or is this not a great idea? Thoughts?
-Wednesday's Trivia Question: What was the name of Eddie Murphy's character in his
major movie debut, BEVERLY HILLS COP?
