Night 2 of The Voice and I hate to find fault, because I do love the show so much, but does EVERY contestant have to have the saddest backstory ever? We had a family held at gunpoint, we had a guy who had his jaw wired shut, we had a kid who almost died from a virus and believe me I could go on. I wasn't in the best of moods yesterday to begin with and then contestant after contestant brought me deeper into my funk. With no ice cream or Mallomars (on sale all week at Shop Rite) in my house, it took everything in my power to persevere and get through the show. If it wasn't for Xtina's train wreck boob situation, CeeLo's little red fan and big Pink Parrot, Blake's blue eyes, and Adam's everything, I would have turned off the TV and just gone to bed.
I have no idea how I feel yet about the new Ryan Murphy show, The New Normal. I just feel that Ryan is always trying to stack the deck with as many "unique" characters as possible and pack in the "it's okay to be different" message as much as possible in his shows. There were definitely some great lines in the show last night, and the little girls imitation of Little Edie from Grey Gardens was spot on, but I'm not sure if I would give this one my Season Pass award just yet. I guess if there's nothing else on...I'd watch, but there's something missing or annoying or something...just not sure what it is yet. Let me give it another week and some more thought.
Yeah...Parenthood is back! I've got issues already. I learned about foreshadowing in 8th grade. So when one of the stories within this episode is about how the Braverman's never let a non family member in the family portrait until they are really married to a Braverman, and then we meet "special guest star" Ray Romano as Sarah's new boss, I feel trouble. If Sarah dumps Jason Ritter for Ray, I'm going to have a big problem. I know she's currently the only single one and we need someone to play the field, but I love Jason Ritter and I think it could be interesting to follow their relationship. The best/saddest part of the show was the entire Haddie leaving for college part. I hate to say the same things over and over, but it was JUST SO REAL. The actress who plays Haddie is amazing and the last few minutes of Adam and Christina putting their first born on a plane heading for Cornell got the tears flowing. Glad the Braverman's are back, I've missed them.
What was going on over at The Today Show yesterday? GMA and CBS's Morning Show both honored 9/11, but The Today Show went with Kris Jenner and breast implants at 8:48? Gotta come clean, I don't watch The Today Show. I'm usually already at my desk getting you this blog on time, but from what I've read, this is in fact what happened. Not cool guys. Not cool at all really.
On Monday, I checked out and reviewed Jeff Probst's new talk show, yesterday, it was Katie Couric's turn. Katie's show is pretty typical talk show fare. The set reminds me of Oprah's old set and while Katie was good with her guests, she didn't have that "thing" that Jeff has. I hate to say it this way, but Katie feels old school to me and Jeff is current and relevant and put a new spin on an old format. There's room I guess for both of them, but If I had to pick one of them...obviously I'm picking Jeff. Ratings wise, Katie did great, but with talk shows, you really have to take a look over time and not just at one show. Like I said...there is room here for everyone.
I want to personally thank CBS for finally moving their Sunday night Primetime shows start time back 30 minutes when there is an NFL Doubleheader. What does it mean for all of us? 60 Minutes will start at 730pm, Big Bro will start at 830p etc. Not sure why this declaration was such a long time coming, but it's the right thing to do and now I won't miss the last 15 minutes of any of my shows on the network. Thanks again CBS
I know we have discussed before how I watch TV with my laptop and my cell phone all at the same time...seems I'm not the only one! These percentages are growing quarter after quarter. Pretty interesting stuff.
