Yankee Playoffs, Jets on MNF, Homeland, How I Met Your Mother and The Voice. (Not to mention another episode of my new guilty pleasure, What Was Carol Brady Thinking?) What a night!  The Tivo's were working their hard drives off and I was a master with the remote.

All I kept thinking about on my commute home was how badly I needed to see Homeland.  I tried not to read anything about Sunday's episode all day but it was tough.  Finally I settled in and caught up. I guess Carrie kept all of her CIA disguises in perfect condition, because she was well prepared with a black wig, black contacts and a head scarf while on her quick trip to Beirut to get the dirt on Abu Nazir. Pretty sure someone needs to play around with her meds because for someone who really wants her job back, Carrie went rogue twice in 10 minutes.  First she took the meeting without Saul and then when they were getting Fatima and getting out of dodge, I mean Beirut,  she ran back in to Fatima's house to look for top secret stuff. (Which of course she found)  The locals went nuts and attacked the getaway car forcing them to leave Carrie behind, but she grabbed a brick,  knocked a dude out and was home on the couch just in time for Homeland.  I feel weird saying anything negative about Homeland, but what are the chances that Brody would be in the right place, at the right time, with a cell phone that can text from DC to Beirut on the first try (must be a Verizon customer) AND signal Abu Nazir just in the nick of time?  A bit unrealistic, but I'm going to let it go...sort of.

I hate to say this, I really do and last week when my friend and WWTM reader Lillian said that she thought How I Met Your Mother "Jumped the Shark," I defended the show but I think maybe Lil's right.  This weeks episode had all the makings of a Shark Jumper...a baby, Chris Elliot, and Marshall and Lily screaming like freaks.  I love Barney, but he's just getting ridiculous at this point and Marshall and Lily are really over as far as I'm concerned.  They should have named the baby Jaws or Orca or any famous fish name...anything but Marvin as he was one of the nails in the shows coffin.  I'm starting not to care who the Mom is at this point and I hate admitting that.  Carter Bays, if you are reading this, I hope you have a major course correction in store so that you can end this show with brilliance, hilarity class and dignity...exactly the way you started it.

Just when you thought The Voice couldn't get any better, they took the Battle Rounds and kicked them up a notch with the new "steal" option.  Basically, after one of the coaches chooses a winner of a battle, the remaining contestant can be stolen by another coach.  So buttons are still getting pressed and coaches are still battling against each other to be chosen...great addition!  As we all know, when the battle rounds begin, the mentors enter the show.  Adam had Mary J. Blige, Blake had Michael Buble, CeeLo had Rob Thomas and Xtina had Billy Joe Armstrong prior to his on stage rant and subsequent entry into rehab.  I love Rob Thomas, but none of the mentors really added much to the show at all.  All of the battle rounds were great, but the last one of the evening between Amanda and Trevin was so good, that I immediately downloaded their performance of Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" onto my iPhone. If you were watching Sanchez or A-Rod at that time, here's the link...you probably would have preferred watching this performance instead of either one of theirs.

Couple of additional notes and observations...Starbucks has apparently thrown their venti, grande and tall drinks into the singing competition sponsorship arena.  What's most interesting to me is that it seems to be all product placement and no actual spots in show. How will everyone know that it's Pumpkin Chai Latte time at their local Starbucks without a :30 spot?  Adam's beard seemed to change drastically within the 2 hour broadcast.  He went from clean shaven (and ultra hot)  to 5 O'clock shadow (and ultra hot) to needing a shave (and ultra hot) all before 10pm.  So much for continuity.  CeeLo had his red fan, his pink parrot and his Stay Puff Marshmallow costume and Xtina seemed Xtra droopy. Hasn't anyone told her about the value of Spanx and a good bra yet? Didn't she watch Oprah?

I love Ben Affleck and can't wait to see Argo.  Ben was on Live (With) Kelly & Michael yesterday and he seemed a bit depressed to me.  He obviously had some issues with turning 40, but other than the excitement about his movie, he seemed like maybe he needs some Wellbutrin or something.  He has a super hot wife, 2 cute daughters and now, finally a son.  A great career going, some cool friends...maybe too many trips to the Congo are starting to get to him or maybe he was just annoyed that he had to play the lame "All About the Benjamins game". With Kelly and Strahan. Cheer up Ben...I'm thinking Oscar nominations are coming your way!

Ed's Dancing with the Stars Update

Since I’m traveling for business this week, this will have to be an unofficial DWTAS (Dancing With The All Stars) Update.  It’s based on my personal expertise in all things DWTAS along with some notes I’ve found online about what happened tonight.  So with that information upfront, here’s your week 3 update.
Tonight’s episode seems to have been an outstanding one with one exception – Bristol and Mark.  Just like Pamela Anderson, Bristol should not even be on the All Star edition of the show.  There are so many other contestants, cut from the same cloth of say an Apolo Anton Ohno, who would have been true outstanding choices for this All Star Edition.
Three All-Stars seems to be a lock to return – Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft and Shawn Johnson.  They’re on the top of the leaderboard and had outstanding judges feedback and results.  It will be hard (no pun intended) for fans not to vote for weenie Actor Gilles Marini and Gold Medalist Apolo anton Ohno.  So where does that leave us?
Helio Castroneves is in trouble.  Even before I saw that he is once again a middle of the Packer, I felt he was lacking mojo without his original partner Juliana Hough.  And Drew Lachey has to be nervous – bottom of the pack and already was in the bottom two once before.  This is a double elimination week and the two who should go home – Bristol Palin and Kirstie Alley – will likely stay for different reasons.  Bristol thanks to the Republi-Fans; Kirstie because of her ability to connect to the audience. While Sabrina Bryan, who was a shocking elimination in her original season, is tempting to pick, I’m going to go with Drew Lachey and Helio Castroneves as the ones who leave the dance floor in week 3.  Stay tuned!

If at first you don't succeed try, try again...that seems to be Paula Abdul's motto.  American Idol...check.  X Factor...check.  Next up, guest judge on Dancing with the Stars on 10/15.  Honestly, with Paula's choreography background, you'd think she would have started with DWTS in the first place.  I bet she'll give Carrie Ann Inaba a Cha Cha for her money.

NBC announced yesterday that they were going to delay the season premieres of Whitney and Community.  I'm guessing that they are holding them as replacements for some of their midweek sitcoms that may be on the bubble.  I hope Guys with Kids isn't one of them though...

FOX announced full season orders for Ben and Kate (yeah...I like that one) and The Mindy Project (Surprised by that, I don't love it).

Syfy announced it's renewal of Face Off.  Not one I watch, but it is pretty good.

I don't usually include Hollywood gossip in this blog (well not since the whole Charlie Sheen meltdown days) but I was really bummed to hear the news that Danny DeVito and Rhea Pearlman were divorcing after 30 years of marriage.  I really thought they'd be together forever.  I don't know Rhea Pearlman but I sense that she is a yeller.  I could be way off base, but if I'm right, maybe Danny just couldn't take the yelling anymore?  I don't know...I have to come up with something.

On Sunday night, the Lifetime Original Movie, Steel Magnolias, became their third most watched original telecast ever with 6.5 million total viewers.

I found this really cool online TV Guide which tells you when and where you can find your favorite broadcast and cable TV shows online for FREE.  It's a great resource...check it out!

Tuesday's Trivia Question: In the famous "Oh My Nose" Brady Bunch episode, who did Marcia break her date with to go out with Doug Simpson, Big Man On Campus?
