I've been very very lucky to be able to watch TV during Hurricane Sandy...old school though

The answer to Wednesday's Trivia Question: Claire Dunphy dressed up as Little Bo Peep in last weeks Halloween episode of Modern Family

FIRST FIVES: Bobby Aguilera, Tara Dowling, Kevin Conroy, Bill McLaughlin & Karen Perry

Hoping most of you are starting to get back to whatever normal is these days.  As I type this, I am still home, still on a generator and an antenna, so limited in my ability to watch much at all, but doing the best I can under the circumstances.

We were able to watch Survivor via our digital antenna...our own Hurricane Sandy miracle.  Since we were pretty much watching by a majority ruling, Survivor beat out the X Factor last night.  (Take that Nielsen) Sure I could have pulled the " I have to watch X Factor for work" card, but we've been in close quarters for a while and we haven't killed each other yet, so I didn't want to rock the boat.  (These are factors Nielsen doesn't account for anyway).   This week, right off the bat, the teams merged which was good news for Michael Skupin since he didn't get to the merge last time he played.  After the merge, Lisa Whelchel was trying to be nice and hung everyone's clothes to dry, something Blair Warner would NEVER do.  Lisa discovered that Malcolm had an idol.  Which was good because that got her into an alliance with Malcolm and Denise.  Right away the tribe formed a plan to oust Penner or RC and get the idol that Penner had out of play.  Only Lisa, Denise and Malcolm know about Malcolm's idol and so far he's not a target.  First immunity challenge was a hard endurance challenge and Jeff Kent, the baseball player nobody knows, cut a deal with Carter the stoner, and allowed him to win immunity. So Carter and Denise were both off limits. During tribal, it sounded like cannibals were eating each other in the jungle, and nobody acknowledged the sounds...that was weird.  Penner did play the idol and good thing he did because he definitely would have been sent packing.  SPOILER ALERT: RC the big boobed chick with the leopard bikini who I'm sure the men in the audience will miss...was sent to the jury.

The family chose Modern Family at 9pm and it was a really good, one big reason...NO LILY!!!  The show is just so much better when she isn't it.  The entire episode took place during a family yard sale.  I love how the writers work Hailey in via Skype it's really pretty funny. Manny and Luke found a suitcase with a ventriloquist dummy in it and all anyone wanted, including me, was to see Gloria's mad skills which of course were ridiculous but we realized that the dummy was JAY!  Claire said it best..."She married her dummy".  Phil almost bought Jay's Harley, but his test ride didn't go very well and he showed up back home with one pant leg missing. Alex's boyfriend is gay just hasn't figured it all out yet.

At 9:30, I got a little X Factor...the last half hour of it. This was the first show with Khloe K. and Mario Lopez co-hosting.  Khloe looked like she had to go the bathroom and really seemed to need the judges to answer a lot of questions which was just uncomfortable for me as a viewer. Mario was much more at ease, but then again he does host another show every day so he has some experience.  Demi Lovato with her long straight hair and bangs,  looked good and she really stuck up to Simon who was in a very feisty mood.  Britney also went for bangs but she was wearing what looked like a bedazzled bib.  I only got to see 4 acts, the girl group, 1432 (I love you too) who had to change their name for legal reasons.  They stunk. Willie Jones, the soup can fade, country singer  who was decent.  Carly Rose Sonnenclar who chose the wrong song and my favorite of the half hour, Emblem 3.  They were really good and they made Demi Lovato blush.

On Nashville, Juliette's drug addict Mom moved in and was making her nuts, well, actually it  made her a shoplifter...this review interrupted by a special report from Eyewitness News...more Sandy news so I missed a big chunk of Nashville.  Came back 20 minutes later and it was Juliette and her drug addict Mom again...guess I did't miss THAT much.  Gunner and his co-worker had a one night stand and she left just in time for Scarlett to see her leave his place.   Juliette had an interview with Robin Roberts on GMA?  I guess the Nashville peeps didn't know that Robin's out on medical leave? Awkward. Juliette freaked out on Robin Roberts and left the interview, so now none of her sponsors want anything to do with her and her tour is being cancelled.  Raina's husband Teddy and Deacon got into it a bit at Teddy's fundraiser and it looks like Brad Paisley's wife, the Father of the Bride chick and Teddy have something going on I don't think its what we think it is though.

Yesterday, with the all of the announcements of NBC's mid season premiere's I noted that Revolution comes BACK on 3/25, but what I failed to mention is that it begins a 4 month break on 11/26.  A lot of articles have been written about Revolution and how great its doing and how it's NBC's biggest hit this season.  Revolution is benefitting by it's post Voice timeslot.  In my opinion, it's a bad move for the show to take a 4 month hiatus, but I'm guessing there is a method behind NBC's madness and maybe they need the time to shoot more episodes, I don't know.  Cable shows can do this and get away with it, not sure that broadcast shows can do the same.  I guess it's one of those wait and see scenerio's and I don't want to be a Debby Downer, but I really think it's a bad idea.

Leave it to FOX to cut itself a great deal and continue to help Charlie Sheen maintain his reign as the luckiest celebrity ever.  FX owns Sheen's show, Anger Management and ordered 100 episodes after only 10 had aired.  What this did was guaranteed FOX a show to  air on the FOX owned and operated stations around the country in syndication. Great for FOX and great for Charlie...man that guy really has 9 or maybe 10 lives no?

Wilfred was renewed by FX for a 3rd season
Common Law was cancelled by USA
Gossip Girl 2 hour finale is set to air on 12/17

Thursday's Trivia Question: What was Tony Soprano's therapist's name?
