Comedians in Cars AND an Award Show…a little dose of sunshine!

THE ANSWER TO THURSDAY'S TRIVIA QUESTION: Clear Eyes, Full Hearts Can't Lose is from Friday Night Lights. Gotta say, I'm pretty bummed with the response rate on this one. If you read my blog and you haven't watched every episode of Friday Night Lights, we have a serious problem. You will thank me, you will tell me I was SO right, just do yourself a favor this Summer and watch all of FNL so that Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose means something to you!  I'm seriously begging!!!

THE SHOWS

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee-IT'S BACK!!!
I totally owe you guys a huge apology. In my TV depression haze, I totally forgot to read my own blog and watch the new episode of CiCGC this morning. As soon as I realized that there was a new ep (Thank you Facebook!) I called my husband. He's one of those people who can watch the show at work (See, Jerry's research was right!). He called me back 20 minutes later and told me that this episode was the best one ever. I was shocked.  Sarah Jessica Parker was better than Chris Rock, Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman and all the others? YES! She is. For those of you that have never spent any time with me, watch this episode. I think SJP IS ME! OMG she is hilarious, notices all the little stupid sh*t that I notice and she has the best laugh. Jerry and SJP have a great chemistry. I loved the car, I loved the new cheesy theme song, I just loved this episode. I hope you do too! http://www.crackle.com/c/comedians-in-cars-getting-coffee

4th Critics Choice Television Awards
Before I get to the bullet points, I have a couple of comments about the CCTA's. Cedric the Entertainer stunk. They didn't need a host at all. The presenters could have just walked out on their own. The other thing that stunk was that 7 winners out of 24 weren't in attendance
  • Cedric the Entertainer started the show off calling out how few black people there were on TV and in the audience can you say AWKWARD?
  • Tatiana Maslany from Orphan Black, the show you all need to be watching, was realllllly chilllly if you know what I mean and she needed her hair done
  • Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series: Bellamy Young from Scandal who was really freaking out. You'd have thought she'd won an Oscar.
  • The chick from The Americans didn't look that happy when she lost.
  • Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series: Aaron Paul for Breaking Bad but he wasn't there to get it which really should be a requirement.
  • My friend Diane Gartner looks a lot like Angie Harmon and Colin Hanks looks a LOT like his Dad
  • Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series: No idea what constitutes a "gues performer" but...YEAH Crazy Eyes aka Uzo Aduba from Orange is the New Black (bonus if you know Crazy Eyes first name)
  • Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series: Allison Janney for Masters of Sex gold Best first sentence at a podium ever…"I just came"
  • Best Supporting Actor in a Mini Series or Movie: Matt Bomer for the Normal Heart  Damn he is SUPER hot!  I love the word he used to describe what he went through during filming The Normal Heart…HANGRY. I will be using that Matt.  I'll give you credit though.
  • Best Supporting Actress in a Mini Series or Movie: Allison Tolman for Fargo. Great cleavage was offset by a cat call out. Once you start talking to your cat on National TV chances of getting other jobs decrease
  • I hated Laura Prepon's dress
  • Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series: Andre Braugher for Brooklyn 9-9 but he wasn't there to accept and I got angrier.
  • I hated Isaiah Washington's hat
  • Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series: TIE!!! Kate Mulgrew from OitNB not there to accept which of course pissed me off. Allison Janney for Mom (2nd of the night if you're counting) 2nd best first line at the podium "Well this is the climax of my career"
  • The Most Exciting New Series: They all look scary to me except for Halt and Catch Fire.  Penny Dreadful, Extant, The Strain, Outlander The Leftovers & Gotham
  • Louis 13 Genius Award to Ryan Murphy. Ryan stole the mean tweets idea from Jimmy Kimmel but who cares their still funny.
  • Sarah Silverman's boobs looked awesome. She and the guy from @Midnight win for best presenters.
  • Best Reality Series: Cosmos.  The producer tripped on her dress, couldn't hold her own award, seemed to have this weird lip thing going on and couldn't say Seth McFarlane's name correctly. They played  her off. which is weird because with all the peeps not showing up there should have been extra time for speeches.
  • Best Reality Series Competition: Shark Tank- Mark Burnett had a crazy Jesus beard. I'm pretty sure I'm glad I'm not their kid or a relative of any kind
  • Best Animated Series: Archer - Loved the Hong Kong Phooey reference and the super crazy acceptance speech
  • Emmy Rossum looked gorgeous
  • Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries: Billy Bob Thornton for Fargo. I was bummed that Mark Ruffalo didn't win and Billy really creeps me out. Can you believe Angelina slept with him AND Brad Pitt.
  • Best Actress in a Movie or MiniSeries : Jessica Lange who wasn't  there to accept her award which again pissed me off
  • Best Talk Show: The Tonight Show. Jimmy wasn't there AND they didn't even give the award out on the show and THAT really pissed me off.
  • Best Reality Host: Neil from Cosmos won and he wasn't there EITHER. You know how I felt.
  • Best Mini Series: Fargo won. Was that Warren Littlefield up there?
  • Best Movie Made for Television: The Normal Heart
  • Jonathan Rhys looked sad and again…I forgot how Welsh he is
  • Lizzie Caplan from Masters of Sex looked good but could use a hot oil treatment on her hair
  • Best Actor in a Comedy Series: Jim Parsons for Big Bang Theory
  • Best Actress in a Comedy Series: Bev Goldberg lost to Julia Louis Dreyfuss for Veep and she wasn't there. BEV was robbed!
  • Best Comedy Series: Orange is the New Black YEAHHHHH. I don't want to say I told you guys, but I DID!
  • Best Actress in a Drama: Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black. Keri Russel and Lizzie Caplan didn't look to thrilled during their loser close up, but I've been screaming to whoever will listen about Tatiana. She's brilliant.
  • Best Actor in a Drama: Matthew McConaughey beat out Bryan Cranston well…all right, all right, all right!  Matthew's amazing at the acceptance speech thing. He really needs to have a class for others to learn the craft.
  • Final award of the night given out by Christian Slater who reminded of Jack Nickelson
  • Best Drama: Breaking Bad and nobody from the show was there other than the Executive Producer that's quite a letdown.  Still an award show and still enjoyable.

THE OTHER STUFF

-I know we were all totally psyched for Better Call Saul this Fall, but AMC has moved it to 1Q. That's the bad news, the good news is that they've already renewed the show for a 2nd Season which is a positive sign. As much as it totally sucks to have to wait so much longer for it, we all know that 4Q is about holidays, football and clutter. We'll wait til it's cold and snowy and we're hibernating like bears to get into this one. I have faith in my friends at AMC. I feel it, this one's gonna be GOOD!

-Chelsea Handler must have had Netflix on her dream board or something. I remember when she was on Howard Stern and said she wanted to be on Netflix and as of last night, it's official. She's going to do a stand-up special and other stuff until her talk show launches with them in 2016. I still can't stand her, but I love when someone sets their minds to something, puts it on a dream board and it happens for them. Congrats Chelsea.  I wonder when I'll get my Tesla?

-If you're into Beyonce, and lets face it, who isn't? Check out the first of four 10 minute special concert segments this Sunday right before the premiere of the final season of True Blood.

-How good does this sound? "Lifetime goes behind the scenes of one of TV's most popular Saturday morning series in a new movie called: The Unauthorized SAVED BY THE BELL Story. We have to wait til Labor Day weekend for it but don't worry, I'll remind you.

-Big Brother peeps…check this out: http://www.cbs.com/shows/big_brother/team-america-vote/

Friday's Easy Trivia Question (I think it's an easy one) : Who were Saul's 2 best clients?

Have a great weekend!

THE SHOWS

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
I've probably watched Jay 5 or 10 times over his 22 year run but of course I had to watch the last show. Mainly because I love Garth Brooks, but also because I just wanted to see it for myself. It was sweet and cheesy which is what I sort of expected. Billy Crystal was sweet and cheesy as was the "So Long, Farewell" bit, but I'll admit, I got choked up when Jay got choked up. Nice to see him get a bit emotional. While his comments about the Tonight Show crew being his family were also very sweet, if I were Mavis, I think I might be a bit miffed. Jay mentioned that after he lost his Mom, Dad and bro he "was pretty much out of family and the folks at the Tonight Show became his family." Ahhh what about MAVIS, Jay???  No thank you to good ole Mavis? She's the one who's gotta deal with you now Jay, I personally would have set that stage a bit better. Either way, it's always sad to say good-bye even if it's to someone I rarely said hello to.

Winter Olympics (I'm going with bullets)
  • Bob's got a pink eye or something, but he's a trooper and got comfy at his super cool diamond desk.
  • You can live stream without knowing the results...WAY COOL NBC!!!
  • The NBC Olympic App is WAY cool and you can watch all day! There's also a Visa camera app too that you have to check out
  • Slope Style Snowboarding is crazy. My heart stops when they're in the air so long.
  • Just to be clear that is NOT Jenny Jones the former talk show host flying down the mountain.
  • Love seeing the replay of a great wipeout from every angle and in slow motion.
  • Jamie Anderson, US Slope Style boarder currently in first place, has 7 brothers and sisters and was raised in Lake Tahoe. Had to be a fun way to grow up. She's a real tree hugger. She hugs a tree before she heads down the mountain. I'm totally serious. She really does.
  • Love all the Russian Babushka Dolls everywhere
  • Putin/Politics-Candy Crush time
  • Mens Short Program -Team
  • Yevgeny Plushenko's considered a rock star in Russia. Not the most attractive guy in the world. He probably should have shaved before he took to the ice. Some big bling for a skater, I would think that would be dangerous.
  • Loving the Quads
  • Jeremy Abbott CRASHED AND BURNED BIG TIME
  • Patrick Chan wasn't that great either. It's the Olympics people...A Game!
  • Yuzuro Hanyu from Japan brought his A Game big time. Kicked Plushenko down a notch. Only 19 years old and he sort of looked rubbery.
  • Ya gotta love Scott Hamilton he gets super excited over everything
  • Bode Miller's 36 years old and still skiing
  • Shaun White dropped out of the Men's Slope Style. Lots of controversy
  • SebToots pretty good...I like the nickname
  • Okay so the Japanese pairs team TRAINS in America but they are skating for Japan. Not sure how I feel about that.
  • Just to clarify...it's not TRIPLE SOW COW...it's TRIPLE SALCHOW
  • Pairs Team Skate
  • There is a 16" difference between Castelli and Shnapir. The did okay but I loved that they skated to Santana
  • Canadians Megan and Eric kicked butt with their routine. Eric composed the music they skated to. Impressive.
  • The Russian dude was channeling a Brian Boitano look and I believe he was sporting a bit of a mullet, hate to say it but they were great. Still preferred the Canadians
  • Back to the snowboarding. Mark McMorris competed with a broken rib and crashed. That HAD to hurt.
  • 1620 is 5 rotations people!
  • Didn't the snow on the womens mogul mountain look like white sand? it was odd looking to me
  • Hannah Kearney's braids are ridiculous
The Vampire Diaries
I really do want Elena back and I want her back with Damon. I can't stand this Katherine traveler thing and I hate the ultra mean killing machine Damon Salvatore. I'm thinking that the jig will be up soon since Tyler heard Natalia compelling Matt. How could Matt NOT notice that his vervane necklace was missing? Wouldn't that be like underwear in Mystic Falls? I was thinking, who cleans the Salvatore's house? There's always such destruction and then it's all cleaned up. Is there some compelled cleaning lady around that we don't know about? This weeks awesome party idea: The Bitter Ball where you bring photos of your ex and put it in the shredder. Loved Kathlena's comment: "I didn't think people actually printed out pictures anymore." Not digging this Enzo guy at all. I'd like him to leave soon. Also like Jeremy to get a new hairstylist. What happened to his hottness.

Kelly & Michael
I TiVo Kelly & Michael every day. Every year, Kelly makes a Super Bowl bet. Used to be with Regis and now it's with Michael. Kelly always wins...except for this year. Because she lost, she had to do yesterday's show without make-up and guess who was on the show yesterday? Only GEORGE freaking CLOONEY! Kelly looked okay, not great but okay. What's George going to say? You look beautiful blah, blah, blah. I'm betting that George would NEVER sign Kelly to the two year deal, but it was fun TV anyway. George rules. Super hot, super charming and super funny.

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
http://www.comediansincarsgettingcoffee.com/howard-stern-the-last-days-of-howard-stern I'm a HUGE Howard Stern fan and obviously a huge Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee fan. I was totally looking forward to this episode and unfortunately I was a bit disappointed by it. First of all it's the shortest episode this season at only 14 minutes and Howard came across overly neurotic to me. Jerry did a great job with Howard but the shows just off a bit. There's a segment in the supermarket that really made no sense at all. I bet Jerry and Howard rarely if ever go to a supermarket. I did love the car choice though, perfectly fitting for Howard. Watch the episode and tell me if you agree.

Nashville
I don't even know what the truth is anymore on this show. Did Powers Booth kill his wife? Did he try to kill Teddy? He had a story for everything and he was pretty convincing too...until he died. Dun..Dun...DUNNNN Before he bit it, the girls all sang him a beautiful song, made him cookies and welcomed him home, but that's the last time any of them will see him because he had a heart attack in Teddy's office and Teddy did NOTHING to help the guy. I don't even care. Good riddance in my opinion. Will's so afraid of embracing his homosexuality that he got Brent fired from Edgehill, Scarlett's doing great except she's addicted to pills, Deacon and Avery kicked butt at the Bluebird and Juliette seems to have the magical ability to do a complete apartment renovation in less than 6 hours including new furniture, candles, and carpet.  I could use a visit from her at my house. If all that wasn't enough, Zoey did that hair straightening treatment and I barely recognized her.

THE OTHER STUFF

It's Amazon's pilot season again. Last time we all viewed and voted for Alpha's and Betas and both of were made into a series.  There are 5 shows to choose from: The After, Bosch, Mozart in the Jungle, The Rebels, & Transparent.  At press time, I've only seen Mozart in the Jungle and I really liked it. It's about the NYC Orchestra scene and stars Malcom McDowell as the Maestro who's been kicked to the curb for Gael Garcia the hot new innovative conductor. Bernadette Peters is in it but it's all the young unknowns in the cast that are more fun and interesting. I still have 4 others to watch, but pretty impressed with this one.

Anyone who wants to binge view season 1 of FX's The Americans can head on over to Amazon right now. The entire first season is available to stream for all Amazon Prime members. The second season starts on 2/26 so there's plenty of time. I liked this show. I'd say go for it.

On a completely side note, when I'm NOT listening to Howard Stern in the morning, I listen to Scott & Todd on WPLJ. Today is Scott Shannon's last day in the broadcast booth. It caught me by surprise. I had no idea that he was leaving. I used to work for Scott and to be honest he wasn't a nice guy at all. I've heard that over the years he's changed. Regardless of my feelings, he's a good broadcaster and will be missed.

Friday's Trivia Question: No idea why this Olympic moment is stuck in my head but this skier had a crazy Gold Medal winning run in the 1976 Olympics. He wasn't a US athlete. Name him.

Have a great weekend!

THE SHOWS

Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee
When the only interesting things about Tina Fey are that she doesn't drive, doesn't have keys to her own apartment and is completely in charge of all feces in her home, normally you'd think the episode would suck. Not when Jerry's driving. Cool car, cool scenery, funny observations, cereal puff milkshakes and a hilarious product placement  were enough to save this weeks installment of CiCGC. I really thought Tina would be funnier, more interesting and less "opaque".  I wonder if Jerry thought that too.  Last week Todd Barry made Jerry work, but this week I think he had to work a bit harder. In one scene it seemed like there might have even been some awkward silence.  See what you think. I'd still watch the episode, just to appreciate how good Jerry is at pulling it all together.

Parks and Recreation
This was it...Ann Perkins and Chris Trager said goodbye to Pawnee forever. Of course Leslie threw the best farewell party for Ann Perkins, because that's what Leslie Knope does. A years worth of holidays and birthdays all in one party. Great idea if anyones got an unlimited budget and a great party planner. Doesn't Rashida Jones look way too good pregnant? I guess fake pregnancy's the way to go. No swelling, no stretchmarks and no baby. Leslie made a crazy amount of scrapbooks to send Ann on her way with. 25 points if you know how many. Chris Trager was channelling his inner Elaine Benis and dancing to a great tune at the party. Another 25 points if you can name the song. Chris had crazy thoughtful parting gifts for the guys who had only a gift card to a Pot & Pan store for him. Didn't matter though, heartfelt goodbyes were handed out across the board to everyone. I thought once the tears started that I'd cry too, but not one tear from me. Not sure why. I guess I'm assuming and hoping that Chris and Ann bring their baby back to meet the gang one of these days. I'll liTrally (I know it's spelled wrong, but that's how Chris says it) miss Rob and Rashida each and every week, but life in Pawnee does go on.

SNL Sports Spectacular
Lorne and the SNL gang are apparently in Superbowl spirit mode. They went back to the archives and pulled a lot of great clips featuring sports stars together to celebrate the big game. I'd seen most of the skits before. Some were worth watching again, like the Tim Tebow/Jesus/Bears skit or the Maya Rudolph National Anthem one, but there were a few I had never seen before. I don't remember why, but I had never seen the Peyton Manning episode and his skits WERE super funny. Also a realllly old one featuring a very young Ray Romano and Tim Meadows doing Sportcenter.   Loved David Spade as Scott Hamilton and forgot how hilarious Chris Farley was with Nancy Kerrigan. Really great compilation actually.

Vampire Diaries
You'd think that being immortal would be relatively easy, but there seems to be all these downsides to being a vampire. I mean, sure, you can't get in to every party unless the host is conveniently located near the door, and sure you have to kill people if you don't have access to a blood bank. Oh and there's that vervane thing, werewolves, certain wood spears, hybrids, vampire hunters and witches to contend with. Once you have all that handled and have mastered the vampire life there's now a new curve ball...travellers. Can we EVER just have a party in Mystic Falls where the guys take their shirts off and make out with the girls? Soooo much drama! I thought I was in the clear with all the doppelgangers out of the picture...not when Julie Plec has her way. We're still dealing with this Katherine/Elena madness. I for one, don't like it. One other thing, how do all these fireplaces and candles get lit all the time without someone scrambling for matches or wood or anything. Is it all magic even when there aren't witches around. Vampires can't light things up on their own can they? Net/Net Katherine's in Elena's body, and this guy Enzo's back to get Damon back into killer mode and Tyler's pissed that Caroline slept with Klaus. Of course the shows good, but sometimes I'd just like to go old school.

Nashville
Now FINALLY, Scarlett's getting interesting. I was sort of hoping that Liam would lay down more than just her vocal tracks, but maybe that'll come in time. Must be fun when two superstars date. Luke got Rayna on a Nascar CAR, into the garage and onto the track to help promote her new album. That's the kind of thing I just can't make happen for my car loving husband. What I can do though, is take a page from the Juliette Barnes cookbook...pasta and ketchup! I actually used to LOVE that when I was little. Funny that's the dinner that she finally seduced Avery with. Sam Boone was supposed to be Sam Walton from Walmart right? Nice little statement made there about how artists are treated in those stores huh? Loved that Layla is basically a body filled with nothing. No thoughts of her own, nothing to put down on paper at all. In a town where making music seems so easy, must be a real bummer when you can't write a song at all. Coupla good cameos, Brad Paisley and Austin Dillon. I guess now that Kim's home again, Brad can repay the favor to the producers for giving his wife a job for a while.

THE OTHER STUFF

Everyone keeps talking about this Seinfeld reunion. Hoping it's just a Superbowl commercial or Jerry's getting a limo and throwing the entire cast into it for an Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee "very special episode".

I'm not doing Black Sails on Starz. I think I mentioned that pirates aren't my thing, but if you're feeling the need to binge the show. No worries, Starz will be running a on March 15th that will end with the season finale. I'll remind you again in March.

Puppy Bowl, Kitten Bowl or Fish Bowl? Which one you watching?

Top Chef fans, good news, 12th season's a go.

Banshee fans, also good news, season 3's a go.

Friday's Trivia Question: This question came in from Bob Kaplan over at CBS. I loved it so much that I pre-empted James's other questions. Thanks Bob! Prior to 2014, name the last 5 Super Bowl Halftime performers.

Have a great weekend, enjoy the game and the commercials!
