THE SHOWS

Jimmy Kimmel Live
Sure I love Jimmy Fallon, but I do enjoy Jimmy Kimmel and TiVO his show everyday. Not sure if you're up to speed on this one, but if not, it's my job to get you there. Yesterday all over the place there was a video of a wolf running loose in hallways of the Olympic Village. It was everywhere. Guess what...PRANK! Jimmy Kimmel Olympic size prank and a really good one. Jimmy got permission to use women's luge team member, Kate Hansen's Twitter account and post a video of the wolf running loose. It of course went viral and was all the rage...Not real, brilliant prank. Good job Jimmy! The late night wars have begun. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here's the video: http://abc.go.com/shows/jimmy-kimmel-live

In addition to Jimmy Kimmel, I again caught up on Ellen,  Andy Cohen, Kelly & Michael, more Olympics and even 40 minutes of Grease. Last nights Jimmy Fallon was good, but nothing super juicy to report. Jimmy had the first lady, MIchelle Obama, Will Farrell and Arcade Fire. Jimmy's big skit was "EW" where he dressed like a blond haired little girl. I've never been a lover of that character. Last nights show was the weakest of the week and more of a "normal" show. Tonight's the big one...Justin Timberlake. I'm sure it will be epic. Can't wait to see it.

THE OTHER STUFF

-Congrats to Nina Tassler who was named Chairman of CBS Entertainment and with that her contract has been extended through 2017. In her new expanded role, Tassler will lead the Network’s Entertainment programming across primetime, daytime and late night, as well as program development in all genres, including comedy, drama, reality, specials and long-form. She will direct a growing year-round programming portfolio that now includes a full slate of original series in the summer and a newly created limited series and live event program unit. Tassler will also oversee Entertainment division matters in advertising and promotion, business affairs, consumer products, digital/interactive, diversity, publicity, scheduling and research. She's also married and the Mom of 2 kids. I'd love to know her work/life balance situation.

Just what we need, another all sports network. This one's supposed to be different though. Time Inc. is launching 120 Sports, a live-streaming sports network that will provide game highlights and access to unauthenticated video programming. No idea what that means. Also not sure what this means: "through a new technology platform built to intuitively integrate video and data in ways fans haven't experienced before." Launch partners include the NHL, NBA, MLB.com, NASCAR and collegiate conferences. The 24-hour linear net, featuring programming in two-minute segments, is set to debut this spring. I guess I'll have to wait and see it to understand what it is.

Jimmy & Kanye
-With all of the fun TV on last night there was nothing better than Kanye West on Jimmy Kimmel. For those of you reading this in a cave somewhere, Kanye and Jimmy have been in a Twitter war over a skit Jimmy did on his show making fun of an interview Kanye did with the BBC. Kanye showed up with his fringe boots and sparkly grill and at first it was a bit awkward but it was amazing trainwreck TV.  It was real and Kanye spouted his stuff to the camera, not to Jimmy's face. When it was Jimmy's turn to speak he spoke directly to Kanye and pretty much told him that in general, people think he's a jerk and he has always defended him. Kanye believes that he himself is a creative genius and he's not afraid to say it or anything else that's in his brain. The man is filterless and I couldn't take my eyes off him. I need to rewatch the entire interview. Jimmy called Kanye out for calling himself a genius but Kanye just kept going on and on and on. Ranting about the paparazzi, that Kim Kardashian doesn't have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame and that he is pretty much taking meetings with everyone in fashion because he IS fashion. I can't even do this thing justice.  Later in the show, Josh Groban performed a skit singing Kanye's tweets and Kanye was able to laugh at it, sort of. Kanye ended up having shmutz on his face at one point  probably the result of the grill and talking so much. OMG people you need to see this thing. Watch the show, the entire thing.  It's divided up into 6 parts on YouTube, so just go watch. KUDOS TO YOU JIMMY KIMMEL!  GREAT TV! Howard would be proud.

Survivor
I'm not going to waste my time typing about Candice and John at Redemption together, or Gervase and Tyson's secret coconut scam because tribal council was insane last night! I hope Colton's home watching Caleb kick some Survivor ass. That boy knows how to play the game and man he did blow things up last night. He found out that Brad was floating his name around for eviction even though Brad was telling him and the other guys that Ciera was the main target since she sucks at puzzles and had lost the last 2 challenges for the tribe. At tribal, Caleb not only called Brad out on it, he told everyone that he was going to write Brad's name on the paper. That resulted in a tie. During the second round of voting we all thought Hayden was turning on Brad but it had to be Vytas. So, not only did Brad get sent to Redemption, but he's now going to be there with Candice and John who hate his guts. OMG I can't even believe it...tooooo juicy. Damn I love this show!

Back in the Game
Hard to write a lot about this show. James Caan is the show. He's politically incorrect, nasty, and not even good to look at, but it doesn't matter, he's hilarious. I don't know why I think he's playing himself, maybe because he was a nasty guy when I met him, but either way on TV it works and it works well. This week, he was being especially mean to the kids and they all determined that it was because he was "pent up". So Terry went online to find him the Markie Post, the perfect woman for him. She seemed awesome, but he didn't go for her, he got some disgusting cigarette smoking, coughing chick just to piss Terry off. There was a whole thing with Dick the D*ck and chocolate sales but all that was irrelevant to anything James Caan does or says.

Modern Family
Did we know that Cam's sister's name is Pam? If I knew...I forgot this funny tidbit. Pam was in town visiting her bro and breaking the news that she was marrying Beau, Cam's first crush. Claire and Phil were not in the mood to go to another one of Luke's soccer tournaments. (I felt their pain. Some days the LAST thing I want to do is go sit out on those bleachers but...we do it.) So they agreed to stay home and get stuff done. Phil spent his time cleaning out the gutters and killing birds. Claire ended up getting her errands done so fast that she showed up at the field just in time to see Luke play the game of his life. (Some cool Mom had Sangria at soccer, why didn't I think of that?) Problem was, she couldn't tell Phil she was there. She didn't have to though...Cam told him after he freaked out when he forced everyone to tell him things about himself that they didn't think he could handle. (Hailey doesn't like Cam's shirts with the crazy cuffs.) He couldn't. Gloria needed glasses but was to vain to get them so Jay and Manny pretended that Jay accidentally ate rat poison to see if Gloria could read the box and figure out what to do. She couldn't and Jay fake died. Two great lines of the night: 1) Mitch asked Cam why the wedding swatches were both white and Lily responded with: "That's what my friend Keisha asked me about you and Daddy". 2) Jay and Gloria were talking at the end of the show and said: "I won't be able to hear her and she won't be able to see me...we'll be together forever".

Nashville
Rayna and Teddy signed their divorce papers which is cool because I hate Teddy. He was a total jerk to Deacon when all Deacon was doing was telling him he was a good Dad and he IS Maddie's Dad. Deacon's doin the AA thing and in so much pain physically and mentally. We finally found out that Deacon's dad was an abusive drunk too.  I love Deacon, I felt SO bad for him last night, but I also was noticing that his forehead wasn't so crinkly, do you think he got a little Botox? I wouldn't care if he did, just an observation. Juliette blew off the Shareholders showcase to get a million bucks for playing a wealthy couples party. The husband said all he wanted to do was play a song with Juliette, but he ended up doing WAY more than that. Rayna told Scarlett and Liam that she's "lost her voice" and can't sing anymore. (Just like Shania Twain!) So at the Shareholder showcase she had Scarlett sing instead which pissed off Oliver Hudson big time. The label got a stylist for Scarlett which I was hoping would be a good thing, but they made her look like she personally put the HO in Hoedown. UGH I hated what she looked like. Bummed that Kim Paisley's entire storyline has to do with Teddy. I love her and hate him so I didn't care at all when he told her he wants to be with her and the baby. Last but not least was poor old Gunnar and his personal pity party. Feeling bad for himself that Will and Scarlett are up on stage and he's not. Waaaa Gunnar.

NEWS & INFORMATION

-The O'Connell Jinx is alive and well...We Are Men is now the second official cancellation of the Fall Primetime Season and another one cancelled after only 2 episodes. I have no idea how much it costs to green light a primetime show, but really...just ask us!  Do what Amazon did...let us vote! I screened many of the Primetime shows for 40 people in August and I knew just from that what would do well and what wouldn't.  Let viewers help you guys.  I guarantee you will save a TON of dough!!!  I enjoy Jerry O'Connell but if your an actor or actress out there and you get cast in a Jerry O'Connell project make sure you get paid in advance!!!

-Some cool Scandal premiere episode info:

  • Total Viewer Multiplatform delivery was 10.5 million viewers. This included Live + Same day viewing. Timeshifted viewers in days 1-3 added 2.8 million viewers. The Tuesday encored delivered another 3 million viewers and the episode was viewed 1.4 million times on the ABC FEP and Hulu in its first 5 days.
  • Scandal's total multiplatform viewing grew 91% over last years season premiere.
  • Without the inclusion of the encore, Scandal grew 51% on TV and online viewing tripled! Up 186%
  • Socially, Scandal delivered 713,000 tweets  which was the highest social delivery to date and the highest for any broadcast series telecast this season.  The premiere was up 22% from May's season finale and 714% from last fall's premiere. The premiere was  the #1 broadcast social show for the week.
-Bummer for Jon Stewart, but maybe a good thing for all of us, Rory Albanese, The Daily Show's writer and showrunner is leaving the show after 10 years. He's sold a project to CBS and will be throwing his hat (or keyboard) into the broadcast comedy arena. Good Luck Rory, we can always use a GOOD comedy.  How about one about a really funny guy on a fake news show who decides to go into the real news business or something?  That's not a bad idea.

-I may not be loving The Originals, but a lot of people did watch it. Tuesday nights premiere of the show in it's regular time period delivered huge increases vs. year ago for the CW. 1.9 milllion viewers tuned in which is a 14% increase. The big difference though is against the demos. The Originals was up 60% against A18-34, 57% in W18-34 and 80% in A18-49 and 71% in W18-49. Good news all around.  Fingers crossed that it stays that way.

I knew this Twitter thing was going to continue to make news and evolve. Comcast and Twitter announced a pretty cool social TV partnership. Comcasts engineers have created a cool new feature called "See It" that will give its Xfinity TV customers the ability to instantly access TV shows, movies and sports directly from a Tweet.  If you have Comcast as your cable provider, starting in November, you'll be able to do this. I hope Cablevision is watching...they've given me nothing in years except a bigger bill.

-A&E's getting a makeover and a new "Be Original" tagline. I have no idea what their old tagline is but if it makes them happy...I'm all for it.

Not sure if any of you stayed up for Jimmy Kimmel last night, but it was one of the best shows ever! Jimmy is definitely in this war to win and win big.  (I know, I do feel sort of dirty talking about the other Jimmy this way.)  For those of you that don't know, Jimmy "bumps" Matt Damon every night from his show. It's been a running joke for 10 years, but last night it was Matt Damon who had the last laugh as he tied Jimmy up and took over the show. HILARIOUS from the first second.  Matt pulled every star out of his Iphone for this one. Andy Garcia replaced Jimmy's sidekick Guillermo, Sheryl Crow replaced the band leader and Ben Affleck did the cue cards.  Then on the couch, Nicole Kidman, Gary Oldman, Amy Adams, Reese Witherspoon and even a very botoxed Demi Moore who hasn't been on the talk show circuit in a while stopped by, but the best guest...Jimmy's Ex (and Matt Damon lover) Sarah Silverman.  It was an awesome show, if you haven't seen it, you should check it out tonight.

Did anyone notice how dark Vampire Diaries was last night?  Not just in mood, but truly lacking light. First I thought it was my TV, but I'm sure you can imagine...I have good equipment, and all of the other channels were fine so it was them not me.  In addition to my confusion on the lack of light, I was confused about the rules of compulsion, but I think I got it. Cole compelled Damon to kill Jeremy, and he can do that because he's an original. Elena figured out that if Jeremy just kills Cole, his hunter's mark would be complete because when you kill an original you kill all their peeps.  Why didn't Elena think of that 3 episodes ago?  My assumptions were correct, that dude Shane is crazy and now he has this weird power over Bonnie.  She's now superpowerful and always looks like she's going to get a nosebleed or bunch someone in the face. Apparently back in the day, Stefan and Rebecca had crazy sex because well...Rebecca's crazy.  Now, they're doing it again...a crazy friends with benefits type deal. Gotta say...I'm good with it.  Oh wait, just realized...what was the deal with the mystery guy looking for the headstone who bit off his own tongue and then killed himself? That was odd and no real payoff before the credits rolled.  There was no shirtlessness at all this episode which pissed me off AND I was sort of noticing that Cole, Rebecca and Klaus all have totally different accents and if memory serves Elijah too...which is sort of a problem since they are all brothers and sisters.  Of course at the end of the episode after Stefan had saved Damon he had to lock him up for safe keeping.  He had the best line to Elena last night..."You don't know what I look like when I'm not in love with you".  We do now...

I tune in to Glee these days with little expectation.  I assume there's going to be a lesson and that I'm going to be preached to about something, which of course I was this week too.  This time empowering women was the theme. Oyyyy does every episode have to have a lesson? Ryan Murphy must have really been wronged over the years.  I would think we've covered it all by now, but he still pops up with more lessons for us all to learn.  That being said I thought Kurt's new crush was really cute, Blaine's crush on Sam, stupid, and the Kitty/Puck/Jake thing annoying, but Finn in the teachers lounge wearing a tie is just wrong...he graduated LAST year.  Please.  Loved the "No Scrubs" performance and the "Locked out of Heaven" performance.  We knew there would have to be a way to get the New Directions back into Glee competitions so a crazy cheating scandal is the answer.  I mean come on, why on earth would the Warblers need to cheat? Ridiculous...but okay, it's Glee

30 Rock's second to last episode was brilliant.  I don't know what was better, Kenneth getting his page job back and taking the NBC President candidates on a Willie Wonka type tour where he ended up winning the job himself OR the fact that the twins that Liz adopted are a mini Jenna and a mini Tracy.  I can't believe next week is the last episode.  I'm so going to miss 30 Rock's brilliance.

On Parks & Rec, don't you think that Chris Trager's "special friend" Shawna looks exactly like Susan "Erica Kane" Lucci? I mean they could be twins no? I know I've said this before, but man Rob Lowe can fill out his button downs nicely.  Ron Swanson's in love with Xena the Warrior Princess, and Tom tried to learn to play basketball, but the best part of the show this week was Leslie and April doing garbage duty.  I'm thinking Amy Poehler didn't just want to talk about gender equality in government jobs, but really just wanted what we all want...to ride on the back of the truck!  Good show as always guys!

NEWS & INFORMATION:

-Mixed emotions about Girls being renewed for a 3rd season on HBO.  So many of you say I need to give it another shot, but at the same time,

-Brooke Shields is joining the cast of Army Wives 3/10.  Whatever happen to Christopher Atkins?

-In case anyone was worried about Dr. Phil, don't be, his show just got renewed through 2017.  Still time for tons of self correction and improvement if you need him.

Wade and Zoe and Hart of Dixie were back from their holiday break last night. When we last left these two, they had decided to actually give the boyfriend/girlfriend thing a shot.  Now they are a month in and waiting for their first fight just as the town of Blue Belle was preparing for Pioneer Day.  Blue Belle seems to always have a festival, a party,
a celebration, a wedding or something in the town square where massive amounts of costumes and props are needed, sort of like The Vampire Diaries if ya think about it (maybe it's a CW thing). The Pioneer theme sounds hokey but everyone actually looked pretty good in their costumes. The good news is that Wade was shirtless before and after Pioneer Day which of course made the episode extra delightful.  I wonder if Rachel Bilson is getting any of that in her trailer?  Hmmmm.  Oh well, I digress...Zoey was following old world advice she was given and wouldn't let herself get angry at Wade with the goal being to not have that first fight . Of course this drove Wade nuts, so he pulled out all the stops  to get her to explode, which she finally did... at the big Pioneer festival after Wade let a raccoon into her apartment to snack on one of her million dollar Louboutin shoes. Of course they agreed to fight in the future and went back to getting naked.  In addition to Zoey and Wade's issues, Brick was sleeping with Shelby and asking George Tucker for advice.  Then there was the "I don't really care" storyline where Lemon and Annabeth catered Pioneer Day. Hart of Dixie's too cute.  It really is, but they need to figure out what to do with Lemon and Lavon...soon.

Whoever does the wardrobe on Cougar Town does a really good job. I feel like every week there is something that somebody is wearing that I want to hunt down. Usually it's Courtney Cox's blouse or necklace, but this week it was Ellie's top that I now need to search for.  Other than the wardrobe, the guys all decided to grow (or glue on) thick Tom Sellecky mustaches which I found funny since Monica on Friends, used to date Tom Selleck. Maybe Courtney has had a mustache thing ever since? The gang didn't drink as much wine as usual, and they almost killed their neighbors cat this week. I was sort of confused with the Grayson storyline in this episode.  He claimed to be homophobic but exhibited signs of someone who was VERY comfortable with his feminine side and gave this whole "lets not judge" speech when his bar become a gay bar. Not sure I got it, but I thoroughly enjoy the show and now I have to hunt down that top. Is there an app that does that yet?

Only 2 episodes of Parenthood left so I was glad that this one wasn't a sad one.  Of course there was drama but, shockingly enough, I did not shed one tear from last nights episode at all. I'm becoming more and more of a Crosby fan this season. I'm sure that knowing that Dax Shepherd is a Howard Stern fan and BFF's with Bradley Cooper, that I'm becoming more of a fan, but this season Crosby is really maturing and isn't so much of a screw up anymore. When Julia broke down about adopting Victor, it was Crosby who reminded Julia that he basically inherited a kid as well when Jabar showed up on his doorstep (well actually on his bow, because he lived on a boat at the time).  Crosby also stuck up to Jasmine's mom, and Jasmine and was right on all counts which was refreshing. The best part of the episode was Max's big vending machine win, thanks to his Mom. So glad that there was no mention of cancer (other than the bald head and scarf) this week.  I think we all need to know the name of the actor that plays Max Braverman. He's brilliant and deserves some sort or recognition.  Max Burkholder...don't forget it. Also pretty touching was the fight for Sarah between Hank and Mark. I guess we will find out her choice next week...or next season.  Can't believe the finale is next week.  It's been a great season, thanks to Jason Katims and the entire Parenthood cast.  You guys all rock!

Rob Lowe was on Jimmy Kimmel last night plugging his Casey Anthony movie and of course Parks and Recreation and damn he looks good.  No, he's not 50 yet, only 48 but the guy is just aging perfectly. I don't believe it was in his book, but he brought up that he had auditioned for Footloose but tore his ACL on the audition and couldn't do the movie.  Of course we can't imagine anyone BUT Kevin Bacon in that role, but it got me thinking about Rob as Ren McCormick...it actually could have worked if you think about it during your commute like I did this AM.

One of Rob's childhood friends, Charlie Sheen, was on Jimmy Fallon's show last night. He was sweaty and hyper but seemed okay and announced that his 28 year old, married, daughter is pregnant, which means that Charlie is going to be a grandfather.  Lets think about THAT for a minute. Even with that news, the best part of the interview was when my FBFF imitated Charlie to Charlie's face. He loved it and of course Jimmy was spot on.  Man I love that guy...Jimmy, not Charlie, just to be clear there.

NEWS & INFORMATION:

-It's cancelled, it's not cancelled, Netflix is saving the show, now it's not.  Looks like AMC has finally decided to uncancel (is that a word?) The Killing  which will be coming back for a 3rd season for all of you that were waiting for some news on this show.

-First Emblem 3 and now Tate Stevens, who won X Factor last season, has signed with Simon Cowell and Syco. Not a huge surprise, but thought you'd be interested.

-Lifetime's Drop Dead Diva is officially cancelled after 4 seasons. Never seen it.

-Here's an amazing factoid:
  • 182 million Americans watched 38.7 billion videos online and 11.3 billion ads all in the month of December. WOW!
  • 84.9% of the US web audience watched online video
  • Average duration of an online video was 5.4 minutes
  • Video ads accounted for 22.6% of all videos viewed and 1.9% of all minutes spent watching online video
-I'm sure you heard that Facebook unveiled its new Graph Search product, yesterday.  I don't admit to being an expert AT ALL on any of this, so bare with me.  This product is basically an internal search engine that provides personal answers about your Facebook friends. If it works the way they are saying it should it, could play a big role in how users search for and discover new content to watch online. Graph Search's interest-based technology would be able to pull up personalized lists of videos, movies, and TV shows, based on what a user's Facebook friends "like" and recommend.  I'm interested but concerned yet again about the privacy piece...I guess we will wait and see.
